Prince Harry in a ‘painful place’ after writing about Kate Middleton in Spare

Prince Harry is in a “painful place” after writing about Princess Kate in Spare, a royal commentator has claimed.

Last month, the Princess of Wales announced she was undergoing a course of preventative chemotherapy for cancer.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex quickly sent a message of support, saying: “We wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace.”

This followed four years of tense relations between the Waleses and the Sussexes after Meghan and Harry stepped down as working royals.

In January 2023, Prince Harry wrote about the Princess of Wales in his memoir Spare, including details about her rifts with Meghan.

He included claims that Kate made Meghan cry and also encouraged Harry to wear his infamous Nazi Halloween costume.

Royal commentator Tessa Dunlop suggested that the Duke of Sussex will be in a painful place as a result of writing about Kate in his book.

She said: “When you do discover that your sister-in-law has cancer and you’ve written stuff that can’t be retracted, that’s quite a painful place to be in. I’m not saying it isn’t.

“They deliberately criticise the monarchy [and then offer] themselves as an alternative to monarchy.

“So then when the monarchy is in trouble, we do kind of make a comparison.

“Can Harry and Meghan really hold themselves off as the caring example now?

“They’re certainly going to have to be careful of their timing with any releases so that it doesn’t look opportunistic.”

Kate, 42, confirmed her cancer diagnosis on March 22, two months after she was hospitalised for surgery.

In a video released by Kensington Palace, she said: “In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was noncancerous.

“However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present.”

GB News understands that the Prince and Princess of Wales wanted to wait until Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five, were home for the Easter school holidays, before revealing the news to the world.
