Queen Elizabeth II was in “no pain” at the time of her death, according to a new royal book.
The late Queen’s final moments showed that Her Majesty “peacefully slipped away” on September 8, 2022.
Sir Edward Young, her private secretary, was at Balmoral on the day of the late monarch’s death.
He noted: “Very peacefully. In her sleep. Slipped away. Old age.”

He also claimed that the late monarch “wouldn’t have been aware of anything” and that she was in “no pain” at the time of her death.
This document, which is now logged in the Royal Archives, has been made public by The Mail 16 months after the late monarch’s death.
It is one of many featured in a new biography by the royal author Robert Hardman.
The book, titled Charles III: New King, New Court. The Inside Story, is being serialised over four days from tomorrow.

Inside the box were two letters, addressed to King Charles and Sir Edward, which will likely never be released to the public.
Hardman wrote of the late Queen’s dedication to duty: “Even on her deathbed, there was work to do. And she had done it.”
The author also claimed that the King and Queen Camilla spent an hour with Her Late Majesty privately before she died.

A heartbreaking account of King Charles sharing the news that Queen Elizabeth II had died to his eldest son, Prince William, is also included in the book.
When Charles called William via the palace switchboard, he was forced to tell the operator “It’s me”, as he could not call himself King until the news was announced, according to Hardman.
The author also alleged that the King tried repeatedly to call Prince Harry to break the news to him personally, but the Duke of Sussex was already in the air and could not get through.
