‘One of the most beautiful cars in automotive history’

“This GT is very rare on the market. Some have been destroyed. But it is simply a masterpiece. Everybody says that the proportions and the shape of the 250 short wheelbase are absolutely perfect.”

Wittmark, who is in his 70s and doesn’t do interviews, acquired the car after it had been in an accident. The damage was light, but the then elderly owner sadly died of a heart attack a few days later. Wittmark sent 3169 to one of the world’s leading Ferrari restorers in Italy, Quality Cars, and spent hundreds of thousands of euros returning it to its original state.

‘The car is perfect’

“He travelled from Sweden to Italy every month to check on its progress. That’s passion for a car,” added Lamoure. But what sort of person will buy this 250 GT?

“The most demanding collector,” says Lamoure, “because the car is perfect. Yes, it is in its original configuration. The buyer will not have to do any work on the car. It is ready to put in their garage or to enjoy on the road. The colour of the car is unique, so they will have a unique car, a unique 250 short wheelbase.

“The [typical] buyers of this sort of car were at Retromobile, but the interest in it will mainly be from America, some from western Europe. I think it will maybe go to America.”
