There are long queues on the M4 around Newport after a crash. Traffic monitoring service Inrix says there is queuing traffic due to an accident on the M4 eastbound carriageway between Junction 24 at the A449 (Coldra) to Junction 23A A4810 (Magor Services).
According to live traffic data from Google Maps, as of 7.57am there is around 12 miles of congestion. Queues are stretching from Junction 23A (Wilcrick) to Junction 29 (Castleton). There is a brief patch of fast-moving traffic around Junction 27 and Junction 28. Traffic monitoring service Inrix says travel time is 30 minutes due to the residual delays from the accident. Congestion update
Congestion is easing, according to Google Maps’ live traffic data. There are now stretches of fast-moving traffic around Junction 28 (Tredegar Park) and Junction 25, Junction 25A and Junction 26 (Brynglas), and also around Junction 24. Where there is still congestion, it’s not as slow as before.

Slow traffic exacerbated by low sun glare
The slow traffic on the eastbound carriageway is being exacerbated by a low sun glare. Right now, Google Maps shows congestion persists from Junction 23A (Magor) to Junction 29 (near Pound Hill and the A48(M) interchange). Earlier there was a patch of fast-moving traffic along the road but now the entire stretch is congested.

Google Maps has updated its live traffic data and it is now showing there is congestion from Junction 23A (Wilcrick) to Junction 29 (Pound Hill), but there are some fast-moving patches around Junction 26 (Brynglas) and Junction 24 (Langstone).
Meanwhile traffic monitoring service Inrix notes there is “very slow traffic due to earlier accident on M4 Eastbound from J28 A48 (Tredegar Park) to J23A A4810 (Magor Services)” but adds that all lanes have been re-opened. One lane had been blocked between Junction 23 and Junction 24.
