A man has been arrested after a police officer was taken to hospital following an “incident” in Ilkeston on Saturday.

Specialist support officers, negotiators and the National Police Air Service were deployed “due to the risks posed by the man”, the force said.

No other members of the public were involved.

The police officer has since been discharged from hospital, and officers are remaining at the scene while an investigation takes place.

The force also confirmed no member of the public or police officer “was taken as a hostage at any time during this incident”.

Eyewitness Liam Seviour, aged 20, said he saw a number of police vehicles arriving and a police helicopter in the air on Saturday evening.

“I saw the two police officers go into the house and heard a bit of rattling around,” he said.

“The next thing I saw all the armed police come [to the street].”

At the scene

By Jeremy Ball, BBC East Midlands social affairs correspondent

There’s a smashed front door at the bungalow where the incident happened.

It is a very quiet cul-de-sac, but there is still a small police presence at the moment, including forensics in big white suits.

Two police cars are stationed outside, while other residents are walking their dogs.

One eyewitness described seeing “at least 20 cars” pull up on Saturday night.
