A third great long red in the frame from Bingham and he will surely now make it four-apiece at the end of the session.

O’Sullivan 4-3 Bingham (0-45)

The reds don’t open up enough for Bingham off the black so he plays safe to baulk.

Wilson 5-2 Higgins (19-7*)

Wonderful cueing from Higgins has him well set on the table now.

Wilson 5-2 Higgins (19-0)

Bingham’s break ends on 17 and then gets very lucky on a subsequent optimistic plant not to leave an easy red.

The red wiped its feet but Bingham’s long red goes in to give him first chance.

O’Sullivan 4-3 Bingham

O’Sullivan 2-3 Bingham (63-34)

O’Sullivan with a third in-off of the afternoon! And Bingham is well back into the frame.

O’Sullivan 2-3 Bingham (63-18)

A break of 43 but he leaves the red ball in the jaws. That looked like a shot which has gone in for most of the week.

Wilson 4-1 Higgins (8*-10)

A very unlucky cannon there from Higgins, potting a plant and then seeing the cue ball knock the black into the bottom right pocket. Now Wilson has a chance to build.

O’Sullivan 2-3 Bingham (20-18)

Now Bingham misses an easy red. This has been a very scrappy frame.

O’Sullivan 2-3 Bingham (20-12*)

O’Sullivan misses a green and the pendulum swings back to Bingham and, though a ricocheted red bounce off three cushions and blocks a potentially simple pink, he continues the break with a long yellow.

O’Sullivan 2-3 Bingham (19*-9)

Another in-off from O’Sullivan but Bingham goes for the trickier of two long-potting options and he leaves O’Sullivan in a with a fine chance to level.

What a way to get off the mark. The black is on the brown spot but, no matter, Higgins completes a total clearance of 129.

O’Sullivan 2-3 Bingham (19-5)

O’Sullivan pots a good long red but on a messy table he opts for a good safety after just adding a yellow.

Wilson 4-0 Higgins (0-62*)

Higgins’ first half-century of the match and he plays a fantastic pink to set up frame ball. Now he could be set for a ton.

O’Sullivan 2-3 Bingham (16-5)

Bingham gets himself in a pickle, fouling and, put back in, has to get out of a snooker with the white tight against the green. After one miss he plays a good safety not to leave anything on.

Wilson 4-0 Higgins (0-8)

Higgins with a chance now. He strikes first with the balls nicely spread.

O’Sullivan 2-3 Bingham (8-5)

An awful safety from O’Sullivan begets another from Bingham and the Rocket gets on the black by the baulk cushion. Incredibly he then goes in-off playing a safety off the next red.

O’Sullivan 2-3 Bingham (0-1)

Bingham pots a good red but jaws the black and is lucky not to leave anything on.

O’Sullivan 2-3 Bingham

A break of 116 seals the frame for the Rocket, the first of the match, and gives him a much-needed boost.

O’Sullivan 1-3 Bingham (8-16)

Bingham’s break ends early with a missed red to middle.

O’Sullivan 1-3 Bingham (8-1*)

Wilson 3-0 Higgins (44*-7)

Back at the table, Wilson has broken up the reds and looks set to build a frame-winning total.

Wilson 3-0 Higgins (10-0)

It really has been a complete performance from Wilson so far. He has dominated safety play as well as building big breask. He has the most unlucky ricochet off a red which ends a promising break here though.

O’Sullivan 1-3 Bingham

A truly fantastic break of 79 from Bingham. He takes a two-frame lead at the interval.

Wilson 3-0 Higgins

Again he disappoints us! This time just the 93.

O’Sullivan 1-2 Bingham (1-51*)

Bingham with a fine break so far – and he is not finished yet.

Wilson 2-0 Higgins (71*-27)

Another big break from Wilson. He has won the frame, will he now get a century?

Bingham smashes a red, it ricochets off the jaws and then spreads the rest of the pack around the table. But O’Sullivan then misses a black.

O’Sullivan 1-2 Bingham

Higgins finally gets a mini-break but misses a double, albeit covering the red with the pack, and it is end of break.

O’Sullivan 0-2 Bingham (0-40*)

Five reds, five blacks….

Wilson 2-0 Higgins

Wilson has secured the second frame too – and could be on for a hundred.

O’Sullivan 0-2 Bingham

A break of 75 has Bingham two up.

Wilson 1-0 Higgins (6*-7)

Higgins looks well off his game. He misses a long straight red by a mile and now the table is well positioned for Wilson to build a lead.

O’Sullivan 0-1 Bingham (14-18*)

Bingham pots a red off the cushion into the yellow pocket made ‘big’ by the presence of the green near it. O’Sullivan turned down a red into that pocket before.

O’Sullivan 0-1 Bingham (14-17)

O’Sullivan leaves the black ball dangling over the bottom right pocket. No other easy red to pot on the table though.

O’Sullivan 0-1 Bingham (7*-17)

Bingham’s break ends and O’Sullivan pots a long red to get him back with a good chance to take the frame.

O’Sullivan 0-1 Bingham (6-12*)

O’Sullivan is well out of sorts. He missed the edge of a red he tried to play a safety off and caught it again off the bottom cushion. Now Bingham is amongst the balls.

O’Sullivan 0-1 Bingham (6-4)

O’Sullivan pots a long red but can’t get position from the blue.

O’Sullivan 0-1 Bingham (0-4)

O’Sullivan goes in-off attempting a safety, but not the worst result as the balls are still in a pack.

Wilson 1-0 Higgins

Wilson’s break ends with 70, after his earlier 38. He is right back on form.

O’Sullivan 0-1 Bingham

A break of 55 secures the frame for Bingham.

O’Sullivan 0-0 Bingham (7-62*)

Bingham has secured the frame now. What a great start after such a tough match last night.

Wilson 0-0 Higgins (49*-5)

Another fine long red has Wilson back among the balls and looks set to take the frame.

O’Sullivan 0-0 Bingham (7-24*)

Bingham looks in great touch, he plays a brilliant long red and then gets himself position on a red, but with the pink and black out of commission a big break will be very difficult.

Wilson runs out of position and plays a safety to baulk – and then the Doubles Master plays a reverse double to nothing, before leaving a snooker.

Watch: How Trump salvaged 4-4 from a tough session

Trump 4-4 Jones

After a period of excellent safety, both players can count themselves lucky following poor shots.

Jones then leaves Trump a chance when he puts the pink over the bottom-left corner. Trump makes no mistake and then attempts and gets a double on the black for the steal of steals to make it 4-4.

What a difference that makes on the scoreboard, while it remains to be seen whether it will psychologically impact Jones.

He’ll have to get over it quickly as the match will resume tonight at 19:00 BST.

Gilbert 7-1 Maguire

Gilbert puts the finishing touches to a dominant session by winning another tight frame on a respotted black.

Maguire had the first chance but struck both middle-pocket jaws to leave a sitter for his opponent.

Gilbert will lead 7-1 when the match resumes tonight and needs only six more frames to book his place in the semi-finals.

For Maguire, what a comedown after the heroics of his victory over Shaun Murphy in the last 16.

Trump 3-4 Jones (52-63)

The pink is sitting on the side cushion and the main stumbling block for Trump to navigate. He develops it off the blue but can’t push it into a nice position to pot.

He takes it on anyway but can’t get it to drop and luckily it runs safe. What a finish to this session.

Trump 3-4 Jones (40-63)

Drama at the death! Trump gets the four-point foul he requires when Jones slides past the final red and pots the white.

With the cue ball in hand, Trump smashes the red in and gets on the black. He needs to clean up the colours to somehow get back on level terms.

Trump 3-4 Jones (26-63)

Trump barely misses a red, leaving Jones a chance on a very similar shot. The Welshman gets it to drop and has an opportunity to wrap up the frame and open up a 5-3 lead.

He just needs two of the final three reds with colours and gets them, although he misses a pink to put the frame beyond doubt.

Trump needs just one snooker and returns to the table.

Trump 3-4 Jones (26-41)

Jones goes into the remaining five reds from the blue but it goes awry and he has to play safe.

He leaves Trump in trouble and earns another eight points in fouls before the Englishman finally hits the reds at the speed he wants to.

Trump 3-4 Jones (26-19)

Jones puts a red perilously close to the corner after an indifferent safety shot but gets away with it when Trump fails to take advantage.

The Welshman then cuts a nice red in before opening the bunch from the yellow and he’s surely now the favourite for the frame.

Trump 3-4 Jones (26-0)

Trump is gifted a simple opener but can’t land on a colour and plays safe. He returns to the table with another opportunity, albeit a more difficult one, and nails a red into the meat of the pocket.

The balls aren’t sitting perfectly and the break comes to an end at 25 when he misjudges a cannon off the blue.

Trump 3-4 Jones

It may have started fortuitously, but Jones takes what’s on offer very assuredly. His break of 74 moves him 4-3 clear with one frame left in the session.

Elsewhere, Gilbert has pounced on another Maguire mistake to pinch the seventh frame by a point for a 6-1 lead.

Trump 3-3 Jones (0-35)

Jones misses an attempted red but could have left Trump something easier. He overcuts the red into the top-left corner and Jones gets on the board off the back of his own miss.

He carves out an opportunity to go into the pack from the black and sends a red up the table towards the corner pocket, but it somehow doesn’t drop.

That keeps the break alive and puts him in pole position to move ahead again.

Trump 3-3 Jones

Jones pots a red and blue before leaving his opponent snookered behind the green. Trump does well to avoid the black and hit the red and then leaves Jones snookered after a shot to nothing on the red.

The Welshman gets out of trouble but Trump finally pots the last red to put the frame to bed and make it 3-3.

Trump 2-3 Jones (69-21)

Jones double kisses a red and leaves Trump an opening, one which he takes with a delicate long red up to the top-right corner.

Trump then leaves Jones needing two snookers after a break of 45 before opting to tie the cue ball up behind the black to gain the upper hand in the ensuing safety battle.

Gilbert 5-1 Maguire

Gilbert resumes normal service with a break of 130 in the sixth frame, his second century of the match.

At 5-1 ahead, he is guaranteed to take a lead into the second session, but how big will it be? Huge two frames to come.

Trump 2-3 Jones (24-21)

The break ends at 24 for Trump, who never really had the cue ball under control. Jones comes to the table and pots a red Trump refused with his last shot. Telling.

Jones then develops a red off the side cushion from the subsequent blue but he’ll do well to win the frame at this visit the way the balls are sitting.

Trump 2-3 Jones (18-4)

Jones jaws a long red and then misses another chance after Trump pots the white. Suddenly, the momentum is with the 2019 champion.

Trump is left an easy opener and will have another opportunity to work through his current struggles.

Watch: Gilbert’s century

picture

‘What a start!’ – Gilbert makes century to open up 4-0 lead

Gilbert 4-1 Maguire (12-0)

Over on table one, the news is better for Maguire fans. The Scotsman is on the board thanks to a break of 50 in the fifth frame.

Trump 2-3 Jones

What a crucial frame this could prove to be. Jones had a brilliant chance to make it 4-1 before missing a simple red to the middle and Trump eventually got over the line to halve his deficit.

He leaves the arena and still isn’t cutting a confident figure but he’s far better placed now than he was 10 minutes ago.

Trump 1-3 Jones (44-52)

Trump snookers Jones and forces a mistake from the Welshman. He pots the penultimate red and gets on the black; there really is no excuse from here.

He plays the final red right-handed and has an angle on the black to get on the yellow.

Trump 1-3 Jones (35-52)

Trump breaks down on 35 after just missing a cannon on the two reds struck on the bottom cushion.

He then plays a poor safety a couple of shots later to give Jones a chance at a red. He doesn’t get it to fall and gets very lucky not to leave Trump something easy.

Trump 1-3 Jones (8-52)

Jones gets to 51 and is in prime position but misses a red to the middle to hand Trump a lifeline. But the Englishman fails to take it and now hasn’t potted a ball in more than half an hour. He looks nervy.

Jones cuts in a red but misses the next blue and Trump is finally back on the board. Can he produce a frame-winning break? We’ll find out soon.

Trump 1-3 Jones (0-21)

We’re back under way here and after Jones misses, he leaves Trump a chance he would normally mop up.

But he cuts across it badly and Jones pots a brilliant long red up past the blue into one of the top corners.

The Welshman opens up reds with the subsequent black and has an opportunity to make it four frames in succession.

Watch: Trump’s wild fluke

picture

‘Incredible’ – Trump gets slice of luck as he flukes in red

Gilbert 4-0 Maguire

On the other table, Gilbert holds a 4-0 lead. After taking two scrappy frames to begin the match, breaks of 83 and 101 have the Englishman in command.

Trump 1-3 Jones

Jones makes no mistake and completes a break of 94 to take his third frame in a row. He’ll be disappointed to have missed the black but he’ll be delighted to lead 3-1 at the interval, especially after the start he had.

There will be no panic yet for Trump but he’ll be eager to get back on the board after the break after looking imperious for the first frame and a half.

Trump 1-2 Jones (0-40)

Jones pots a good long red after losing the cue ball but can’t get on a colour so it’s end of break.

He leaves the white pinned on the top cushion and forces another mistake from Trump. He then stuns a long red in and gets on the black as he creeps towards a 3-1 lead.

Watch: Trump’s early century

picture

Trump makes ‘terrific start’ to quarter-final with century in opening frame

Trump 1-2 Jones (0-18)

Trump has the first chance in the third frame but jaws the red to the middle. He leaves Jones a sniff on a long red and he takes it.

He quickly leaves himself the perfect angle on the blue to split the pack and he spreads them wonderfully.

With the balls at his mercy, let’s see what he can do from here.

Gilbert 2-0 Maguire (25-0)

Maguire makes a break of 63 in the second frame and looks set to level but Gilbert clears up to pinch it for a 2-0 lead.

Gilbert is in the ascendency in the third frame as he aims to establish a healthy early lead.

Trump 1-2 Jones

It’s Trump’s turn to miss. He overcuts a tricky red to the corner and Jones is back at the table.

The Welshman gets the last two reds to fall and needs up to and including the brown to leave Trump needing snookers.

He clears the lot and now leads 2-1. What a turnaround.

Trump 1-1 Jones (25-39)

Jones makes a nice break of 39 with the balls lying awkwardly but he misses a pink on the stretch to hand the momentum back to his opponent.

Trump pots a good opening red as he sets about responding. There are still three reds sitting in unpotable positions but he develops two of them to boost his chances of winning the frame at this visit.

Trump 1-1 Jones (1-13)

Trump sizes up a couple of potential plants but opts to play safe instead. He won’t want this to become a scrappy affair.

After a passage of safety, Trump flukes a red but smashes the balls everywhere and doesn’t land on a colour. He misses a difficult brown and leaves Jones with an easy opener to the middle.

One of those moments where the fluke doesn’t actually help.

Gilbert 1-0 Maguire (26-0)

On the other table, Gilbert is 1-0 ahead after claiming a scrappy opener and the Englishman is back among the balls in the second frame.

Trump 1-1 Jones

For someone who claims to be bang out of form, Jones produces a brilliant clearance of 69 to level at 1-1. That could prove vital.

Trump was looking imperious for a frame and a half but he’ll be rueing that final positional shot that cost him dear.

Trump 1-0 Jones (62-12)

Just as it looks like Trump is set to move 2-0 clear, he runs out of position and has to play safe.

Jones pots a magnificent long red but it’s slightly overhit and the cue ball comes to rest on the side cushion in the baulk area.

The Welshman rolls up to the green and forces Trump to miss the reds and leave a free ball. Frame back on!

Trump 1-0 Jones (62-1)

Trump goes back into what’s left of the pack but this time he doesn’t end up on anything easy.

He weighs up the safety shot before opting to take on a thin cut to middle, which he pours into the heart of the pocket.

Trump 1-0 Jones (38-1)

Jones nails a brilliant long red from near the top cushion, but he jaws the attempted yellow to the middle and leaves Trump an opening.

The pack is still tightly set as Trump gets to 24 but he nudges a few reds loose, gets onto the yellow and then finds prime position again.

This is now a brilliant chance to double his advantage.

Trump 1-0 Jones

In no time at all, Trump leads 1-0 thanks to a break of 110. That was ominously good from the Englishman.

On the other table, Gilbert is ahead in the opening frame against Maguire.

Trump 0-0 Jones (56-0)

Trump goes into the rest of the pack from the blue and although he doesn’t land perfectly on the next ball, he recovers with a thin cut into the corner.

With the balls now at his mercy, the first frame is sure to be his.

Trump 0-0 Jones (28-0)

Trump opens his account with a trademark long red right in the heart. And he didn’t play it as a shot to nothing.

He slams the brown in, rips the white back and splits the pack off his next red. What a start.

The 2019 champion races to 28 and looks in fine fettle.

It’s almost time

A reminder of the format for the quarter-finals. Like the last 32, matches will be played over 25 frames, with eight to come this morning.
