After battling injuries to his legs for over a year, USMNT midfielder Tyler Adams marked his return to the starting XI for the United States with a howitzer of a goal for his final contribution of the night.

Adams came on as a substitute in the team’s poor performance against Jamaica – a game the USA won 3-1 after extra time.

But the Bournemouth man made his mark with a cannon of a shot from over 30 yards out that sailed perfectly into the top left corner to give the Americans a 1-0 lead at the half.

The shot caused shock and awe throughout the stadium – from commentators, writers, and fans as Adams ran over to the sidelines and leaped into the arms of coach Gregg Berhalter.

Jesse Marsch, who coached Adams with the New York Red Bulls and at Leeds United, said, ‘I’ve sat at training and passed him the ball from 30 yards out to shoot… and he’s never, ever in his life hit a ball like that.’

It was the last action of the night for Adams – as the midfielder was taken off at the half

It was only Adams’ second goal for the United States – with his last one coming against Mexico as well.

At the half, Berhalter took Adams off – replacing him with Johnny Cardoso – as there’s likely an understanding between the USA manager and Adams’ club to restrict his minutes as he finalizes his recovery from a ligament injury.

Adams hadn’t taken the field between September and early March – when he played a few matches for Bournemouth’s youth side.

The following week, he made his Premier League debut for the Cherries – coming on as a substitute.

Adams had been dealing with an injury since March, when he was playing at Leeds United.
