Two teenagers arrested after ‘reckless’ street shooting

Two teenagers have been arrested after shots were fired on a major road in what police believe was a “targeted shooting”.

Emergency services were called to New Chester Road on the border of Rock Ferry and New Ferry on Tuesday, March 26, after reports of gunfire. Officers said they received a call at 10.30pm, but believe the incident happened 25 minutes earlier.

There were no reports of any injuries or damage caused in the area after police carried out CCTV, house-to-house and witness enquiries.

Last night, police arrested two 19-year-old men from Eastham and New Ferry on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. Both were taken to a police station in Merseyside and have since been released on bail.

Detective Chief Inspector Tony Roberts of Merseyside Police said: “Although our officers have now made two arrests after what was an incredibly reckless crime that left a community in shock, we are continuing to appeal for anyone with information to please come forward.

“We maintain that this was a targeted incident and our enquiries into the full circumstances of the crime are ongoing.
