Tragedy as person dies at Liverpool Lime Street train station

A person tragically died at Liverpool Lime Street train station on Sunday (April 28). Emergency services were called to an incident in the city centre station at around 12.30pm.

Police officers and paramedics attended the scene and Avanti West Coast, Northern and Transpennine Express trains were cancelled or delayed.




British Transport Police have now confirmed that a person was pronounced dead at the scene and an investigation has been launched.

A spokesperson for the force said: “British Transport Police were called to Liverpool Lime Street at 12.30pm today (April 28) to reports of a concern for safety.

“Officers and paramedics attended, sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is being investigated.” Northern Rail used X to inform passengers that the line is blocked near Liverpool Lime Street due to the “emergency incident.”

While staff at the station made an announcement confirming that trains are experiencing 74 minutes delays. The loudspeaker announcement confirmed that it is due to a “problem currently under investigation.”
