Ticketless Celtic fans jump the fence to gain entry to Hampden Park cup final clash

A number of ticketless Celtic fans have been pictured climbing a fence to gain entry to Hampden Park ahead of their cup final clash against Rangers.

Shocking images show a number of youths clad in green and white hoops climbing up onto a railing and over a green fence at the stadium. Two uniformed police officers can be seen chasing the thugs, with one trying to grab a supporter’s leg to pull him back down.

The area the fans have targeted is at the South East corner of the stadium – at the turnstiles near the junction between Mount Annan Drive and Aikenhead Road. Those who managed to clamber over the fence were seen dashing through the grassy hill area and heading into the arena.

It’s currently unclear how many ticketless fans have managed to gain access to the stadium. Police Scotland have been asked for comment.

The two Glasgow giants kick off in Scottish Cup final at 3pm. Police have been on high alert across the city as the clash brings down the curtain on Scotland’s domestic football season.

Security measures began at Glasgow Central Station, where rival fans were asked to queue separately for trains to Hampden Park in the city’s southside. To keep opposing supporters apart, Celtic’s contingent were urged to use King’s Park Station while Rangers fans used Mount Florida.

It has been 21 years since the Glasgow giants have faced each other in the Scottish Cup final and enhanced police resources were tasked with covering not only the stadium but the city centre as well.

An estimated 25,000 Hoops supporters converged on the Glasgow Cross area last Saturday after their side secured the league title. Fireworks and flares were lit and bus shelters damaged while a number of police officers were injured.
