A teenager has suffered serious injuries in a stabbing in Birmingham city centre today. A large area of Victoria Square, right outside the city’s council house, has been cordoned off with police tape following the incident.
Reports say a 17-year-old was the victim of an attack close to the prominent area near the Floozie in the Jacuzzi at 3.30pm today (Saturday, January 18). The teenager was taken to hospital with serious injuries, West Midlands Police said.
Investigations are underway at the scene, where photos show police tape covering the water feature and the steps down towards New Street. Police officers were also seen closing off a footpath close to Victoria Square.

One person in the area told BirminghamLive they saw the victim ‘lying on a bench’ before emergency services arrived at the scene. They said: “We were filming a kpop video and saw a man laying on the bench. The people were standing next to him and suddenly the police came running and a minute later the ambulance arrived.”
They added that they hadn’t heard any commotion in the area before then.
West Midlands Police have asked for anyone with information or who saw anything to contact the force. Call 101 or speak to someone on the Live Chat feature on the force’s website.
