Takeaway and car dealer named by HMRC on list of Midlands tax dodgers

HMRC has named businesses and individuals based in the West Midlands on a new list of tax dodgers. The tax authority regularly publishes the list as a warning to those who avoid paying what they owe.

The list reveals the names of companies and individuals, how much they failed to pay in tax over a certain period and the penalty they have been served with for not paying. HMRC went after a number of firms who hadn’t paid what they owed following investigations.

It warns those who do not pay tax will be publicly named and shamed. HMRC publishes the list every three months to act as a deterrent and encourages those named to “engage” with them.

The house builder based in Wolverhampton failed to pay £922,352 in tax between April 2020 and December 2021, according to HMRC. It was hit with a penalty of £645,646.
