“Skull,” “Squad” Discounts & Joker DLC Set

Ubisoft’s long gestating live service game “Skull and Bones” has seen its $70 price tag slashed significantly – less than three weeks after the game released.

VGC reports that retailers like Best Buy are now selling the title for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S for $45. Live service games rely on a large player base and the publisher has been criticised for limiting the creation of such a base by charging a full new game price.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has previously called the game their first quadruple-A game and one that will “deliver in the long run”. The company launched with a free eight-hour trial of the title as well.

However reviews for the title stink – coming in at just a 60/100 with reviewers on Metacritic, and a bad 3.5/10 with users. Ubisoft hasn’t revealed any sales data, but have said they have achieved “record player engagement” with the title.

One knock on effect the game has had is a big rise in the number of players revisiting “Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag,” a far better received title whose sailing sections inspired “Skull and Bones”.

It’s not the only high-profile live-service title getting discounted. Gamespot reports that just a month after launch, “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” has already been spotted as being on sale at Amazon and BestBuy for $50 – down from its $70 launch price.

The new price comes as Rocksteady Studios has set a March 28th release date for the game’s first season of DLC which includes The Joker joining the game.
