It’s been a sopping wet Tuesday for many in the North East, after heavy rain caused flash floods and heaped misery on commuters and motorists.
The headline news was the River Tyne bursting its banks on the Quayside, though it was never really close to causing any damage to buildings. Some of the worst flooding was seen in Northumberland, where the A189 Spine Road was closed near Blyth for several hours as vehicles were trapped in flood waters.
Flooding also affected the Coast Road, causing traffic for those heading out of Newcastle; Grandstand Road in Gosforth; and near Tyne Dock in South Shields. Eleven flood alerts remain in place for the North East into Wednesday, and floodgates are closed at Morpeth and Rothbury.
Here’s a look at some of the pictures taken by ChronicleLive photographers and our readers of Tuesday’s flooding.
