Everton boss Sean Dyche endured an awkward moment during his Match of the Day interview after his side secured their Premier League safety.

The Toffees earned a 1-0 win over Brentford thanks to Idrissa Gueye’s 60th-minute goal and will hope, after a turbulent season that has seen two separate points deductions, they have now avoided relegation to the Championship.

Dyche was full of praise for his team and was obviously proud of them for reaching 36 points, a figure Luton Town and Burnley can no longer reach. The former Clarets boss was not full of jubilation, however, and appeared to have a slight issue with one question put to him.

As his interview with BBC came to a close, it was implied that while Everton were not mathematically safe going into the game with the Bees, they had little to fear from relegation. Dyche quickly snapped back though.

“Of course, that old chestnut,” he said. “‘You were safe really’ and all that, of course, You’re all desperate for Luton to win and for us to lose. It ain’t my first rodeo to be fair.”

Things didn’t appear too frosty however, as the reporter replied with a cheeky, “Yeah you were.” to which Dyche responded, “Yeah alright.”

The Everton boss had earlier highlighted the impressive form of his side. Wins over Liverpool, Nottingham Forest and Burnley helped to cement their place in the division in recent weeks.

“Incredibly pleased and incredibly proud of a group of players who have had knocks all season,” said Dyche after the victory over Brentford.. “Some in our control some out of it obviously.
