A new feature piece at Variety has gone into how some of the greatest directors of the 1970s and 1980s are now well into their 70s and 80s in terms of age, but aren’t letting that slow them down.

In the process, they reveal that cinema legends Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg are making progress on several new projects they intend to direct.

First up, 77-year-old Spielberg will reportedly likely make his next project a UFO film based on his own original idea. He’s also got his “Jurassic Park” scribe David Koepp to write the screenplay.

Scorsese meanwhile has two projects on the way with plans to shoot them back-to-back – the previously announced Jesus movie and a Frank Sinatra biopic.

In addition he’s already got some big name talent set for them with his “Silence” star Andrew Garfield and Miles Teller being sought for major roles in the “Jesus” production which aims to shoot later this year in Israel, Italy and Egypt.

Meanwhile he reportedly has Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence set to play Sinatra and Jennifer Lawrence to play his second wife, actress Ava Gardner, in a film which does not yet have the blessing of Tina Sinatra who controls her father’s estate.

Sony Pictures is reportedly the frontrunner to nab that project. Spielberg and Scorsese are also collaborating on that “Cape Fear” TV series for Apple TV+ which both will executive produce.
