Russell Crowe’s appearance on The One Show leaves viewers saying the same thing | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

BBC The One Show viewers took to Twitter to exclaim there was “no way” the man in the studio could be Russell Crowe, as the award-winning actor looked strikingly different from his usual look. The public could be seeing much more of Australia-based actor Russell soon, after he announced his plans to tour new music in the UK, as well as his passion for the Leeds United football team.

The Oscar award winner also explained that his trip to Britain will be extended to Italy, as he plans to play at some of the country’s most iconic historical venues, from the Coliseum (depicted during a fatal fight in his film Gladiator) to an ancient amphitheatre in Pompeii. Yet some viewers’ jaws were dropping due to how different they perceived him to look without his signature beard, while others suggested he barely looked 60.

@dianamahon wrote: “Ah Rusty!!! Just wish him a happy belated birthday for his 60th please! He’s ageing well, still sexy at 60!” @EstelaAburto8 tweeted: “You look great Russell”, while @d7 said: “He looks different without the beard”.

@PDS Printing mused: “Needs to grow the beard back.” Others likened him to the actor John Goodman and claimed there was a slight resemblance as @povlra: “Is it me, or does Russell Crowe look like John Goodman who has lost an immense amount of weight…”

“#theoneshow is that John Goodman or Russell Crowe?” one bemused viewer asked. Another agreed: “Russell Crowe looks like John Goodman from Roseanne!” He wasn’t the only one, as a social media user added: “John Goodman looks well. Hang on, it’s Russell Crowe!

“Everyone has their Glastonbury story and their exciting moments,” he mused, before confessing: “[After the show, we’ve got] two hours to look around – but then we’ve got to fly to Dublin!”

He was joined this evening by Jimmy Carr, who addressed the fury of some members of the public who’ve been hoping to cancel him.

“Jokes are like magnets – they attract and repel. Some people are offended by my jokes and they’re sitting at home trying to get me cancelled,” he stated.

However, he says he intends to reason with his detractors over past inappropriate jokes with a specific strategy: “After being cancelled, I’ll release a statement saying: ‘I’m sorry’ and people will say ‘You don’t really mean that apology.’ So you’re saying I could say something and not really mean it? Now you’re getting it!”

The One Show airs weekdays on BBC One at 7pm
