Road closures in place in Greater Manchester after serious crash

A number of road closures were in place in Bury this morning after a crash in the early hours.

A stretch of Brandlesholme Road towards Greenmount was shut off, as well as a stretch of Longsight Road – at the ‘fingerpost’ junction. Police said the closures were in place so ’emergency services can safely respond to an RTC’.

Officers first posted about the crash at around 3.30am. It has not yet been confirmed whether anyone was seriously injured, though the closures were in place through the early hours of the morning.

Drivers were urged to avoid the area and find alternative routes. A post on the GMP Bury North Facebook page said: “Road closures are in place in #Bury on Brandlesholme Road (B62) between Wood Road Lane and Shepherd Street and on Longsight Road at Hazel Hall Lane to ensure emergency services can respond safely to an RTC.

“This is likely to impact travel for several hours, including into rush hour. Motorists are encouraged to take alternative routes.”

Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for more information this morning. The road re-opened just before 7am.
