Rageh Omaar breaks silence after ITV newsreader sparks concern with ‘unwell’ appearance: ‘Grateful!’

Rageh Omaar has released his first statement since being taken ill following Friday evening’s News at 10 on ITV.

The journalist who serves as the channel’s International Affairs Editor sparked concern among viewers when he began to stumble over his words during Friday’s broadcast.

Omaar appeared to struggle to read out sentences and bulletins as he attempted to deliver the headlines to the nation.

An hour later, ITV decided not to repeat the news broadcast on its catch-up channel, ITV+1.

Now, in a statement shared by ITV News, Omaar has addressed the incident which sparked concern.

“I would like to thank everyone for their kindness and good wishes, especially all the medical staff, all my wonderful colleagues at ITV News, and our viewers who expressed concern,” he began.

He is now “recovering at home with his family” and had to pay a visit to a nearby hospital for treatment.

An ITV News spokesperson also added on Saturday: “We appreciate viewers of last night’s News at 10 were concerned about Rageh Omaar’s wellbeing.

“Following medical treatment at hospital, he is now recovering at home with his family. We are wishing Rageh a speedy recovery and look forward to him being back on screen when he feels ready.”
