Plastic surgeon warns of rise of ‘Ozempic butt’

WEIGHT loss jabs are the slimming tool of the moment, with a growing list of celebrities crediting medication for their slimdowns.

They’ve become so popular that most people know of “Ozempic face” as a potential downside, but a plastic surgeon has claimed patients are lining up to have him fix their “Ozempic butts” too

Sagging skin is a possible side effect of any rapid weight loss, so it can also arise from using the Type 2 diabetes medication semaglutide, which is sold under the name Ozempic.

According to plastic surgeon Dr. Riccardo Frati, MD, patients have asked him to reclaim their skin after using drugs like Wegovy or Mounjaro (another GLP-1 medication called tirzepatide).

He cited a “new chapter” in plastic surgery wherein surgeons are “trimming” and “excising” skin on plenty of butts.

“My role as a plastic surgeon has become to treat people after or during Ozempic,” Frati told The U.S. Sun.

“This new chapter in cosmetic medicine and surgery deals with issues such as loose or excess skin.

“People can start using Ozempic and have a whole new audience of cosmetic problems.

“These include skin sagging and harming collagen and elasticity.

“All these issues can not be reversed independently, and the skin will never return to the pre-weight gain state alone.

“Ozempic butt is a new term that is becoming more and more popular for sagging skin on the backside.

“For Ozempic butt procedures, it depends on the degree of skin laxity.”

According to a survey by KFF, 1 in 8 adults has used a GLP-1 drug like Ozempic at some point in their lives.

Around 2 in 5 adults used the drugs purely to lose weight, while others were using them for conditions like diabetes.

EMPTY PROMISE

Frati detailed how Ozempic impacts the skin and particularly the butt.

“Ozempic will affect the metabolism because it stops the appetite,” he said.

While eating less, some people might not consume enough healthy food to get nutrients to nourish their skin.

“Aside from nutrients, the key point with Ozempic butt is the extreme amount of weight loss over a short period,” he continued.

“This dramatically affects the skin in that backside region.”

FOLD IT UP

According to Frati, plastic surgeons use specific procedures to treat Ozempic butts effectively.

“We use radiofrequency, micro-needling, skin tightening, and non-surgical treatments for Ozempic butt,” he said.

“These can generate new collagen growth and fibers and recreate the same elasticity firmness.

“We want to improve skin laxity and reduce all the new loose folds.

“The next level is a combination treatment where we include fillers and injectables to fill the gaps if there is excess skin.

Ozempic butt cosmetic treatments can cost between a few thousand and up to $50,000.

“The third level would be surgery to restore the correct shape of the butt, so we trim the skin by removing the excess.

“The skin can be excised, and the butt can be lifted, but the skin elasticity, the collagen, needs to be restored as well.

“People who get Ozempic butt treatments are losing about 20 kilograms of weight maximum.

“The prototype will not include anyone with a much larger weight loss requirement.

“Ozempic butt cosmetic treatments can cost between $2,000 and can rise to $50,000.”

STAR SLIMDOWNS

Stars like Sharon Osbourne, Whoopi Goldberg, and Chelsea Handler have admitted to using weight loss drugs.

Oprah Winfrey confirmed her dramatic weight loss in 2023 was down to these injections.

People at a mature age like Oprah would be at risk of Ozempic butt.

“I had an awareness of weight-loss medications, but felt I had to prove I had the willpower to do it. I now no longer feel that way,” she told People magazine.

“I was actually recommending it to people long before I was on it myself,” she added while referring to the drug as a “maintenance tool.”

Frati noted that “Oprah is one of the most famous celebrities in this cohort who thought she may need to lose some weight.”

Elon Musk’s weight yo-yo’d so he may have more risk of getting Ozempic butt, according to an expert

But at 70 years old and of a mature age, he said, she would be at risk of getting Ozempic butt.

FAMOUSLY DROPPING POUNDS

The surgeon added that 52-year-old Elon Musk, who admitted to using Wegovy, might have more skin elasticity because of his age.

At the same time, though, his weight has fluctuated — which is a risk factor.

“Elon Musk also, I believe, had a yo-yoing weight, so he would also have more risk of getting an Ozempic butt,” Frati went on.

“We are now talking about Ozempic faces and Ozempic butts, and this has become a big trend,” he said.
