Nottingham Forest (P) 1-1 Bristol City live: Reaction as Robins are beaten on penalties

Hello and welcome to this evening’s live blog as Bristol City have the opportunity to knock out another Premier League side from this season’s FA Cup.

Having drawn 0-0 with Nottingham Forest at Ashton Gate 12 days ago, and more than matched them, the Robins should carry plenty of confidence into this replay at the City Ground.

However, top-flight clubs don’t tend to provide you with too many chances, so there’s every chance City will have to exceed that performance to secure their passage into the fifth round with the reward being a home date against Manchester United.

Kick-off is at 7:45pm and we’ll be bringing you all the latest throughout the evening…

Forest win the shootout 5-3

Awoniyi finishes it. Max got a hand to it but couldn’t keep it out.

Forest 4-3 City (Mehmeti)

Turner gets a hand to it but can’t keep it out!

Forest 4-2 City (Niakhate)

Niakhate finds the opposite corner.

Forest 3-1 City (Neco Williams)

Another fine penalty leaving Max with no chance.

Forest 2-1 City

Turner saves Sam Bell’s effort!

Forest 2-1 City (Hudson-Odoi)

Forest 1-1 Bristol City (Cornick)

Cornick, amid loud boos, places it low to the left. That shut them up.

Forest 1-0 Bristol City (Gibbs-White)

Gibbs-White finds the bottom left corner.

They’ll be shooting into the end where the City fans are housed

There are various chants in support of both goalkeepers.

Morgan Gibbs-White has the first penalty.

We go to penalties!

Oh, it’s exhausting but what an effort by the boys. We now go to penalties.

Unbelievable defending by Sam Bell

Tavares broke over halfway and slotted a pass through to Awoniyi who was clear on goal but there was Bell to make the tackle.

Forest handball

Gibbs-White played a reverse ball into Tavares who sent in a cross but there was a Forest hand and the referee blows.

Forest free-kick

35 yards out, quite central.

Cornick just over!

Wells sprinted down the right and played a pass just ever so slightly ahead of Cornick which meant he was stretching as he connected and aimed his effort just over.

Gibbs-White shoots wide

His first effort smashes into Vyner and then he sends another one goalwards but it’s comfortably wide.

James fires over!

That was a chance! A fine chance! Williams’ corner was headed to the edge of the area where it was sent back in by Cornick (I think) and James turned first-time to send it over the bar.

City corner

Bell drills in a cross and it’s blocked behind.

Turner has to leave his box

Because otherwise Wells was through on goal.

How did that stay out?

Joe Williams with an unbelievable inside pass into Bell who played in a perfect ball into the six-yard box and it just needed someone, anyone to tap it in but Forest somehow cleared.

Mehmeti can’t beat the man at the near post

Frustrating but City are back on the ball.

Good challenge

Joe Williams pumped a ball downfield into Wells who had the legs on Felipe but just as he tried to move into a shooting position the defender executed a fine sliding challenge. City corner.

City scramble

Neco Williams cooks Bell down the right again and plays a pass into Awoniyi. But City had bodies back and the striker can’t get the ball out of his feet and James is able to boot it away.

Second half of extra-time kicks off

City are now shooting towards the away end.

First-half of extra time over

City have done well to get back into this. They were in control in that final five minutes and a James pass over the top was very nearly brought down by Cornick.

Niakhate heads wide

Danilo clipped a ball into the area and Niakhate had pretty much a free header but glanced it horribly wide.

Bell volleys!

The City winger connected well, leaping acrobatically to meet Tanner’s ball into the box but it was straight at Turner.

Mehmeti denied!

Nobody closed him down and Mehmeti very nearly found the far corner with Turner making another good save.

O’Leary punches and then saves

The City keeper got a strong punch to Danilo’s ball in and then Gibbs-White tried to slam it back at goal from about 25 yards but it was straight at the Robins No1.

Forest corner

A deep diagonal gets Williams running at Bell and Dickie comes across to tackle and concede the corner.

City behind the ball

Safe to say the Robins are in a block here and electing not to press.

O’Leary to the rescue!

Neco Williams is causing Bell all sorts of problems and he gets the wrong side of him and draws a fine save out of O’Leary.

Frantic defending

Neco Williams gets down the right and fires in a cross which James miskicks away.

Cornick fires high and wide

That was a reasonable position but he blasted it into the Trent End.

First half of extra-time kicks off

We’re back underway at the City Ground.

We go to extra time!

It’s 1-1 after 90 minutes!

Joe Williams is mega

Picks up the loose ball, quick 1-2 with Bell who’s then tackled as he tries to sprint downfield. Who’s there to mop things up again? Williams.

Cornick’s okay

In case you were worried.

The board goes up

Four more minutes of regulation time.

Cornick now having treatment

He may well have tweaked something there.

There are some tired legs out there

Cornick breaks over halfway and is tackled. Williams stops to stretch and take a big deep breath.

James shot blocked

Williams won it on halfway, fed Cornick who then played a pass infield. The shot was on but it was well fended away.

Gibbs-White boots it clear

Cornick couldn’t find Knight-Lebel at the near post.

Cornick long throw incoming…

Knight-Lebel is on

He’s on for McCrorie and takes position as right wing-back.

Neco Williams just wide!

That was close. Hudson-Odoi broke down the left and picked out Williams, who rolled Vyner and fired a shot across goal.

Jamie Knight-Lebel is coming on

Well, this is an interesting one. He’s just receiving instructions from Chris Hogg.

O’Leary with a strong save!

The ball dropped kindly for Tavares who unleashed one but O’Leary punched clear.

That looked offside

Not sure how that wasn’t flagged but Tavares got the wrong side of Tanner to nearly get on the end of a long ball forward with O’Leary making a vital punch.
