New Samsung Leak Reveals Stunning Galaxy S24 Ultra Design Decision

Updated December 3: article originally posted December 2. Update below…

As anticipation builds for the release of the Samsung Galaxy S24 range, those eagerly waiting to buy the top-of-the-range Galaxy S24 Ultra will be disappointed.

The latest leaks around the three new Galaxy S handsets highlight the memory options available; the Galaxy S24 will come with 8 GB of RAM, the Galaxy S24+ with 8 GB or 12 GB, and the S24 Ultra with 8 GB or 12 GB.

It is the latter that has upset the community. Although not yet released, several Galaxy S24 Ultra models were spotted running 16 GB of RAM. It now appears that Samsung has pulled back the specs on the top-tier smartphone. More RAM would mean more applications running in the background, faster and smoother switching between applications, and better response from the active application.

With 16 GB, the S24 Ultra could have set the smartphone standard in early 2024. It may still do so, but the competition will find catching up to the South Korean flagship much easier.

Nevertheless, the Galaxy S24 Ultra has guaranteed the appreciation of the Samsung community in one regard. Unlike the S24 and S24+ handsets, which will ship with a mix of Exynos or Snapdragon chipsets, the S24 Ultra is guaranteed to come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Not only that, but Qualcomm will be offering a customised 8 Gen 3 that will unlock more power for Samsung. Whether Samsung can match this with its new Exynos 2400 remains to be seen.

Update: Sunday December 3: With the increased performance that both the Snapdragon and Exynos chipsets are expected to deliver, one of the limiting factors will be the handling of the heat they produce. The more heat that can be pulled away and thrown out of the handset, the more sustained performance Samsung can offer.

The latest details on the various Galaxy S24 handsets show improvements in the capacity of the vapour chambers. These help spread heat from a small area—such as the top of a silicon chip—over a larger area to help dissipate heat as quickly as possible.

The smallest new Galaxy, the S24, will see a vapour chamber that is 1.5 times larger than the S23’s chamber; the S24+’s chamber is 1.6 times larger; and the S24 Ultra’s is 1.9 times larger than the S23 Ultra. With Samsung looking to pack its new Samsung Gauss AI system into the new Galaxy handsets, sustained power and performance will be vital to delivering the new AI experience to the Galaxy community. Gauss will offer everyone customised experiences, improved performances, and creative support.

Samsung is expected to launch the S24 handsets at the next “Galaxy Unpacked” event, which is widely expected to occur on January 17th 2024.
