A mum accused of murdering her young daughter has appeared in court. Jaskirat Kaur was charged by police with killing 10-year-old Shay Kang in the Black Country.
The 33-year-old appeared via video link at Wolverhampton Crown Court today (Friday, April 19). Donning a blue jumper, she spoke only to confirm her name and that she understood the proceedings.
The short hearing was told that a provisional trial date has been set for October. A High Court judge is expected to preside over the trial, Judge Michael Chambers KC said.

Kaur did not enter a plea, with a further court date set for August. Schoolgirl Shay was discovered with serious injuries at a property in Robin Close, Rowley Regis, at about 12.10pm on Monday, March 4.
She was pronounced dead at the scene. An inquest opening at Black Country Coroner’s Court heard she died from a stab wound to the chest.
Tributes poured in following news of the ‘fun-loving’ girl’s death. A GoFundMe page has since raised more than £8,750.
Donations will support funeral costs, a headstone and charity donations. Money will also be used to install benches and plant trees in the community.
Brickhouse Primary School, where Shay was a pupil, said in a statement that the youngster was ‘bright and happy’. She was ‘well-liked by all’, the school added.
West Midlands Police previously said Kaur – of Robin Close, Rowley Regis – is also known as Jasmine Kang. Oliver Woolhouse, defending, told an earlier court hearing: “She has confirmed that her given name and the name she chooses to be known by is Jaskirat Kaur.”
