This is the moment CCTV captures a car thief using an angle grinder to get a steering wheel lock off a stolen Lexus.
The crook is seen briefly being able to drive the luxury red car in a straight line before the car comes to a stop in Forest Gate, east London.
They open the driver’s side door and then use the power tool to remove the security device.
Sparks can be seen coming off the angle grinder as the ‘thief’ attempts to get the lock off in an incident on Wednesday.
The brazen thief momentarily stops when a pedestrian walks by next to the car. Another then walks past on the opposite side of the street.
But the suspect’s attempt was successful and the car then pulls away and sets off.
After the footage was posted online, many expressed their fears over the lengths criminals will go to.
One said: ‘Criminals will also cut out the lock leaving a hole in the wheel, very common now and alarming.’
Another commented on X: ‘London is lost, I do not even travel through there anymore.’
Meanwhile, another who watched the video simply wrote: ‘Criminal minds.’
MailOnline has contacted the Met Police for comment.
