Mea Culpa Is The New Sexy Legal Thriller That We’ll Be Netflix And Chillin’ With This Weekend

Kelly Rowland has produced and starred in a sexy new legal thriller Mea Culpa, and it’s just dropped on Netflix.

The latest project from writer, producer and director Tyler Perry (who we might recognise first and foremost as the majestic-yet-perhaps-morally-questionable lawyer in Gone Girl) explores desire, sexual chemistry and temptation – all taking place during a murder case.

Here’s everything we know so far about Mea Culpa.

What is Mea Cupla about?

The film’s synopsis reads: “A criminal defense attorney named Mea Harper (played by Kelly Rowland) takes on the case of a seductive artist accused of murdering his girlfriend, but when burning desire takes hold, things get hot – and dangerous.”

Ominously, “mea culpa” means “my fault in Latin”, so who knows what salacious happenings might end up being someone’s fault. Cue the twists and turns, and everything (of course) not being what it seems. We can’t wait to find out more.

Who has been cast in Mea Culpa?

Appearing alongside Kelly Rowland is Trevante Rhodes playing questionable artist and defendant Zyair Malloy, Nick Sagar (The Princess Switch), Sean Sagar (The Gentlemen) as well as Dynasty and Inventing Anna star Shannon Thornton and Kerry O’Malley.

What have the Mea Culpa team said about the film?

Kelly has been open about how much she loved working with co-star Trevante, particularly how hard he worked and the chemistry they shared on screen. “Trevante is a dream. I feel very lucky to have shared space with him on camera, and I admire his work ethic,” she said. “And when we met, it was chemistry.”

Director Tyler Perry has also spoken out in an interview with ScreenRant about how brilliant Kelly was as a producer, let alone her acting chops on screen.
