ITV Racing mixes Jumps and Flat action Saturday starting here with a handicap hurdle over 2m4f. AWAYTHELAD might not be considered the first string for Ben Pauling but I suspect he has a solid eachway chance as an improving mud lover who stays this trip well.

Wins at Ludlow and Leicester suggest this seven-year-old is getting his act together and he can go from the front so should be out of trouble. Just the type of horse David Bass will love to ride and he and Pauling know each other well from their Nicky Henderson days.

The big betting race of the day in the Imperial Cup Handicap Hurdle over 2m. Metier is interesting and well handicapped but this is a big chance for BAD to come good. The Ben Pauling runner probably got to the front too soon at Ascot last time although the trip was a bit further than this so maybe he just got outstayed. He goes in the mud and a mark of 126 is still workable even though he’s up 4lb for that defeat. Ben Jones rides. Let’s hope he’s “Bad, he’s bad, you know it, he’s Bad.”

On the Flat for the Listed Lady Wulfruna Stakes over 7f. SHOULDVEBEENARING should be miles too good for this lot for all that stable companion Mums Tipple was a right eye catcher at Lingfield last week. Richard Hannon’s main rider Sean Levey is on top of a horse who was third in the Group 1 Foret at Longchamp and second in the Haydock Park Sprint Cup. He should just be too good.

Here’s a Listed bumper over 2m. CRAZIERTHANDAISY was a real eye-catcher at Huntingdon on debut despite being beaten at a short price for Nicky Henderson in the Honeysuckle colours. Having been hampered the mare ran on well close home and she will enjoy this stamina test. Nico de Boinville is on top.

Now the Lincoln Trial Handicap over an extended 1m. SMOKY MOUNTAIN won’t be a ’sexy’ horse in this down the bottom of the handicap but has every chance and comes from an in-form stable of Charlie Fellowes. Stall 1 looks the plot draw for a horse who goes forward early and he’ll feel let loose with 86st 6lb on his back. Harry Davies is on top and there could be more to come. I think he’s better at this trip than 7f. At least an each-way chance.

A novices’ handicap chase over 2m4f. SCARFACE has a habit of finding one or two too good but is much better off at the weights for a defeat by the re-opposing Kotmask at Plumpton last time and this might be his chance. Brendan Powell rides for Joe Tizzard. Soft/heavy ground should not be an issue.
