Manchester United transfer news live Erik ten Hag latest and FA Cup final reaction

Manchester United won the FA Cup for a 13th time on Saturday after beating neighbours Manchester City 2-1 in the final at Wembley.

First-half goals from youngsters Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo sealed an impressive victory for Erik ten Hag’s side, who were the better team throughout. City halved the deficit through Jeremy Doku in the latter stages of the contest to set up a tense finale.

Almost all of the pre-match conversation from a United perspective was about Ten Hag’s future.

Ten Hag, unsurprisingly, came out fighting in his post-match press conference, insisting he will go “somewhere else” if Ineos decide they want to make a change in the dugout. The Dutchman has won two trophies in as many seasons in charge at Old Trafford.

With United’s campaign having now reached its conclusion, all eyes will be on Ineos’ decision-makers and the upcoming summer transfer window. The window will open for business on June 14.

United ‘leading’ Dipepa race

According to a report by the Mail, United are the ‘leaders’ in the race to sign highly-rated Port Vale striker Baylee Dipepa.

The 17-year-old, who has already forced his way into the England youth system, made 26 first-team appearances for Vale this season, featuring in both League One and the EFL Trophy.

Chipping in with three goals, he is considered as one of the most exciting prospects in the lower reaches of English football. The report states that West Ham United and Newcastle United are also ‘following’ his progress.

German duo Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig have also been linked with his services.

OPINION: Glorious Wembley day gives Ten Hag two United regrets as he fights for future

“In the Wembley sunshine on Saturday, he hardly ever left that technical area but he enjoyed what he was seeing this time. After a quarter of an hour, he took his notepad out of his suit pocket and began jotting down some notes. “Good,” would have sufficed. After spending all of this season with a gap between defence and attack akin to the Grand Canyon, Erik ten Hag finally decided to close the space. It is the centre of the pitch where United have been exposed but under the arch, they were more compact. Out of possession, there was rarely more than 15 yards between the three lines and City were suffocated and stifled. Maybe Ten Hag was writing “should have done this sooner.” He has tried to defend United’s habit of allowing the opposition to shoot at the United goal at will but it has always been a flawed tactic. If you buy enough tickets to the lottery your numbers will come up at some point. Across the two Premier League derbies this season City had 47 shots and should have probably scored more than the six goals they managed.”

Scholes lauds Mainoo after FA Cup final goal

Legendary United midfielder Paul Scholes waxed lyrical about Kobbie Mainoo after he scored in yesterday’s FA Cup final triumph at Wembley.

Mainoo dispatched United’s second goal of the game to help them seal a 2-1 win over rivals Manchester City. His overall performance was one of great encouragement, resulting in him scooping the Player of the Match award.

Taking to his Instagram page post-match, Scholes said:

“Read a few comparisons between me and this kid last week… don’t waste your time, he is 10 times the player I was at 19. Just love the way he receives the ball, the calmness, the awareness of what’s around him and of course big goals in big games… This boy is special… and he’s f*cking red [two red heart emojis]… laters [kiss emoji]…”

Evans issues update on his future

United defender Jonny Evans has admitted that he is yet to find out if he will be offered a new contract at Old Trafford.

The centre-back, who stepped off the bench in Saturday’s FA Cup final at Wembley, is out-of-contract at the end of next month. United have already confirmed that Raphael Varane will leave the club upon the expiry of his deal and others are expected to follow suit.

Evans, however, is not yet sure what will happen, confirming he is waiting to find out what the club will have to say.

He said:

“I don’t know. We’ll see over the next couple of weeks, see what the club says.”

Sancho joining Dortmund permanently is ‘unrealistic’

The prospect of Borussia Dortmund signing United loanee Jadon Sancho on a permanent deal this summer is ‘unrealistic’, according to a report by Sky Germany.

Sancho returned to Dortmund on loan for the remainder of the season in January. He has helped them reached the Champions League final, resulting in his career getting back on track.

Dortmund have already declared interest in the prospect of signing the winger on a permanent basis, but that, according to this report, is now appearing unlikely.

Guardiola sends Ten Hag message to Ratcliffe

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola described United boss Erik ten Hag as an ‘extraordinary’ manager following the Reds’ FA Cup final triumph over his side at Wembley.

United won 2-1 underneath the famous arch yesterday, courtesy of goals from Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho. However, it still might not be enough to keep Ten Hag in a job amid increasing uncertainty about his future at Old Trafford.

Guardiola told the media:

“They have to take a decision. He’s a lovely person and an extraordinary manager. Winning the FA Cup is important for them like last season it was for us.”

Rashford shares emotional message after FA Cup triumph

United forward Marcus Rashford posted an emotional message on his Instagram page following yesterday’s FA Cup final triumph over Manchester City at Wembley.

Recalled to the starting line up to start on the left of the attack, the academy graduate played a key role in helping United clinch a 13th FA Cup crown.

Clearly emotional after full-time, Rashford was pictured with tears rolling down his face as he applauded the fans and thanked them for their support.

United to ‘conduct season review’ before making Ten Hag decision

According to a report by The Athletic, United will ‘conduct a season review next week’ before making a decision on Erik ten Hag’s future as manager.

Despite leading the club to its 13th FA Cup crown at Wembley yesterday, Ten Hag’s future is yet to be decided. He remains under pressure after United finished eighth in the Premier League this season.

It is reported that club bosses, including co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos sporting director Sir David Brailsford, now intend to ‘objectively assess all aspects’ of the campaign.

Ten Hag comes out fighting after FA Cup triumph

United manager Erik ten Hag issued a defiant message to the Ineos Group in his post-match press conference at Wembley yesterday, telling them he will go “somewhere else” if they no longer want him in charge.

Ten Hag faces an uncertain future at M16 after a national newspaper report on Friday claimed he would be sacked following the FA Cup final.

Speaking to the media after his side’s 2-1 win over City, Ten Hag said:

“Two trophies in two years is not bad, three finals in two years is not bad. We have to keep going. I’m not satisfied with it, we have to do better and if they don’t want me any more then I go somewhere else to win trophies because that is what I did my whole career.”

ICYMI: United player ratings vs City as duo star

United clinched their first FA Cup crown since 2016 with a superb 2-1 win over Manchester City at Wembley yesterday.

Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo were on target in the first half to fire United into a commanding 2-0 lead by half-time. Jeremy Doku set up a tense finale after scoring late on but United held firm to get themselves over the line.

Our chief United writer, Samuel Luckhurst, was at Wembley and here is a flavour of how he rated the players out of 10…

Andre Onana

Had staggeringly little to do in the first half against a shot-shy City but brilliantly repelled Kyle Walker’s piledriver as City cranked up the pressure. Onana cracked when he conceded to Jeremy Doku. 6

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Defended solidly and was expertly guided by Raphael Varane on his last start for United. Jeremy Doku came on at half-time but Wan-Bissaka pocketed him. 8

Raphael Varane

Showed why Erik ten Hag has oft-lamented his and Lisandro Martinez’s absence. A last dance to savour on his final appearance for United. 8
