Manchester United travel to Anfield to play Liverpool on Sunday with the future of manager Erik ten Hag the subject of speculation after their Champions League exit
Manchester United have the opportunity to end a harrowing week on an unlikely high when they travel to Liverpool on Sunday.
If the 3-0 home defeat at the hands of Bournemouth last Saturday wasn’t bad enough, Erik ten Hag ‘s exited side were confined to bottom spot in their Champions League group with a 1-0 loss to Bayern Munich. But despite being considered resounding underdogs for their Anfield trip, Ten Hag has insisted his team can avenge their 7-0 loss at the same venue last season.
Another week has also gone by without Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s purchase of a 25 per cent stake in the club being confirmed. The INEOS boss is expected to be handed control of footballing operations, a notion likely to being more scrutiny on the club’s Dutch boss.
Here’s all the latest news to come out of Old Trafford….
Ten Hag reveals Glazers stance on future
Erik ten Hag insists he is not concerned about losing his job – ahead of Manchester United’s crunch trip to Liverpool.
Asked in his Friday press conference if he had the backing of the United hierarchy, despite the side’s dismal run of results, he said: “I feel that and they tell that. That’s fine, that’s okay but I’m focusing on the process, to make this team play better, I’m focusing on making the individuals better, that’s my concern. I’m focusing on the team.
“I’m not concerned about that [his job]. I want to win with my team, I want to progress with my team in the right direction so we are here in a project. Last season, we were absolutely in the right direction. Now we have had a setback, but long-term the future for Manchester United is very good.”

Sancho dealt savage transfer snub
Jadon Sancho has been dealt another transfer snub with Saudi Pro League director of football Michael Emenalo playing down the chances of a move for the winger.
“We can’t discuss specific targets with respect to the parent clubs and also for the player himself,” he told Sky Sports News. “We also don’t want to be regarded as a dumping ground for players that didn’t work in other clubs.
“We have to look carefully at what our clubs require. We will work closely to make that happen. I don’t want to minimise the quality or importance of a player like Jadon. Right now, there are no specific discussions about any specific players.”

Klopp wary of a “stronger” United
Jurgen Klopp will order his Liverpool side to go for the jugular against Manchester United on Sunday despite concerns the recent criticism will make them “stronger.”
In his pre-match press conference, Klopp conceded it was hard to ignore the media storm currently engulfing their opponents, but said United’s current plight also made him wary: “I do not like all this talk around it. It is always like this. The more bad things people say about them, the stronger they will show up.
“That is always the case. I don’t like that. I don’t know about the situation there. I am interested in our situation. It is a home game and we have to show up. We are in our own stadium, we have to create an atmosphere and go for them and not think about anything else.:
