Traffic has been stopped on the M1 northbound due to a multi-vehicle collision this morning. The incident is understood to have happened at around 7am on Friday (April 12), but it is not known how many vehicles were involved.
Emergency services are in attendance with traffic stopped between junction 20 for Lutterworth and junction 21 for Leicester. There are delays of at least 45 minutes and motorists are told to allow additional time for their journeys.
In an update on X, formerly known as Twitter, National Highways East Midlands stated: “Traffic is stopped on the #M1 in #Leicestershire northbound between J20 ( #Lutterworth ) & J21 ( #Leicester ) due to a multi-vehicle collision.
“Emergency services are in attendance. Delays of at least 45 minutes, please allow extra journey time. Thank you for your patience.”

There are still long delays on the M1 northbound as traffic remains stopped following a collision. The incident occured between junctions 20 and 21.
All vehicles have now been moved onto the hard shoulder and clean up works are now taking place. Motorists should allow additional time for their journeys.
