Live updates as pub cordoned off due to ‘police incident’

A pub has been cordoned off due to a “police incident”.

The Cuckoo Hotel on Moss Lane, Orrell Park, is currently behind a cordon as emergency services deal with an incident. Travel Monitor Inrix states: “Reports of police incident on Moss Lane in both directions between A5038 Bailey Drive and A566 Northfield Road.”




Pictures from the scene show Mersey Fire and Rescue Service firefighters around the pub. Tape has also been erected cordoning the pub off with a number of traffic cones. Bus services 61 and 61a have been diverted.

RECAP: Petrol and small gas leak at scene

To recap, emergency services were on Moss Lane in Orrell Park this afternoon.

The Cuckoo Hotel was cordoned off by the fire service and Cadent engineers were also in attendance after reports of a ‘smell of gas’

At the scene a small gas leak was identified, however the emgergency service presence was in relation to a large amount of petrol found.

It is not yet known where the petrol had been found.

The road was cordoned off and bus diversions were put in place.

Cordon coming down

The cordon is now coming down from the scene.

We are awaiting an update from police and the fire service on the nature of the incident.

“Small gas leak” found

Cadent has confirmed a small gas leak has been found at the scene but has been dealt with.

However the ECHO understands the emergency response is related to the petrol found.

Cadent has confirmed the incident is not related to gas.

However the ECHO understands an amount of petrol has been found at the scene.

A spokesperson for Cadent said: “Someone smelled what they thought was gas and they rang us, which was the right thing to do. But when our engineers arrived at the scene they found that the smell was in fact petrol, which is not our expertise, so this has been passed to the fire service. We will stay on hand to support the fire service.”
