Jude Bellingham attemped to put Harry Kane off as the Bayern Munich star stepped up to take a penalty in his side’s Champions League semi-final clash with Real Madrid
Jude Bellingham was left embarrassed after his attempts to put off Harry Kane appeared to have no effect on the Bayern Munich star.
Kane’s Bayern side were hosting Bellingham’s Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final tie on Tuesday night. The visitors took the lead when Vinicus Junior broke away to slot past Manuel Neuer in the first half.
But Bayern turned the game completely on its head in the space of four second-half minutes. First Leroy Sane fired in at the near post to equalise, before Kane stepped up to score a penalty and hand his side the lead.
That penalty came after Jamal Musiala was brought down in the box by Lucas Vazquez. Kane immediately took hold of the ball and as he prepared to take the spot-kick, England team-mate Bellingham approached him.
The Madrid star could be seen whispering in Kane’s ear in an apparent attempt to put the striker off. Those attempts failed miserably though, with Kane waiting for Madrid keeper Andriy Lunin to dive before rolling the ball into the opposite corner.
Kane’s calmness as he took his vital spot-kick was hailed by former Madrid star Steve McManaman. McManaman blasted Vazquez for being sloppy with his defending to give away the penalty.
“Leroy Sane one side, Jamal Musiala the other, sloppy dangle of the leg by Lucas Vazquez. Looked a clear penalty. He’s not a right fullback, we understand that but you can’t do that,” he said in commentary on TNT Sports.

“Blue shirts all around him and he’s given them an opportunity to fall to the floor. And Harry Kane steps up. That’s why we love this competition and this sport so much. In the blink of an eye the tie has turned.
“Lovely play by Thomas Muller but that’s poor, really poor by Lucas Vazquez, great by Musiala. And Harry Kane, cool, calm as you like, stutter, roll it into the net. They have to respond, they have to switch on.”
Bellingham had a quiet night and was replaced by Luka Modric with 15 minutes remaining. Madrid did go on to equalise through a penalty from Vinicius, with former England boss Glenn Hoddle insisting the tie is still all to play for.
“Bit of a strange game really. The goals were scored in moments where they didn’t look like they were coming. It is tight between the teams, nicely poised for the second leg,” he told TNT Sports.
“I think Real Madrid will be the happier of the teams, they had a little spell in the first half but didn’t have prolonged periods of dominance that Bayern had. That will probably come at the Santiago Bernabeu. We’ll have to wait and see.”
