Jay Leno rolls around LA in his Tesla Cybertruck… 11 months after bone-breaking motorcycle crash that followed terrifying car fire

Jay Leno, who has long been famous for his love of cars and extensive automobile collection, was true to form in Los Angeles this Wednesday.

The 73-year-old was seen in his Tesla Cybertruck, the newest edition of which costs $49,890 for a rear-wheel drive and $68,890 for an all-wheel drive.

However the comic has an older version of the model, one he showed off on a 2020 episode of his show Jay Leno’s Garage with Elon Musk as his guest.

This week Jay proved his affection for the Cybertruck has not waned, bringing the massive contraption out into town to run a couple of errands.

His outing comes 11 months after he broke his collarbone in a motorcycle crash – an incident that itself occurred two months after he was burned up in an engine fire.

In November 2022, Jay Leno was working on one of his retro cars in his garage when a 1907 steam engine exploded in his face.

He was covered in third-degree burns and had to spend 10 days in the hospital, during which he was treated in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber.

Just two days after he was discharged, Jay was proudly back in the saddle, bombing around Los Angeles in another one of his vintage automobiles.

However disaster struck again this January when Jay suffered a motorcycle accident that broke his collarbone and two ribs, as well as cracking both his kneecaps.

He told the Las Vegas Review-Journal he was ‘clotheslined’ when he drove into a wire that had been pulled across a parking lot without an attached flag.

One week after his accident, another setback befell Jay when news broke that his CNBC series about his cars had been canceled.

In May, he told Page Six he was ‘doing good’ amid his recovery from his injuries and shared that his enthusiasm for motorcycle riding was undimmed.

Even his wife Mavis, who married him in 1980, is copacetic with his hobby. ‘As long as it’s not cocaine and girlfriends, she’s fine – believe me,’ he quipped.

Jay insisted he was not in the market for sympathy, pointing to his celebrity status vamping that ‘people love to see rich people catch on fire.’

The New Rochelle-born entertainer noted: ‘Look, when you’re in my position, when you’re any kind of celebrity, you’re luckier than most people.’

Said he: ‘So when something bad happens to you, you can’t whine and complain about it because bad things happen to people every day – either they get burned or they get cut – and they don’t have the financial wherewithal I did.’

Jay on the other hand will ‘just make jokes,’ adding that ‘it’s Hollywood. As long as you look OK, you’re OK. Nobody really cares how you feel.’
