Gareth Southgate delivers update on Harry Kane ahead of Bayern Munich’s Champions League clash with Arsenal

Harry Kane will return to Germany for treatment on his ankle injury, England boss Gareth Southgate has confirmed.

The Three Lions captain was absent from their 1-0 friendly defeat against Brazil on Saturday due to his issue.

Kane has been in sensational form during his first season at Bayern Munich, scoring 37 goals in 35 appearances for the German giants.

However, he could be set for a spell on the sidelines, with the 30-year-old set to miss England’s match against Belgium on Tuesday.

After defeat to Brazil, Southgate revealed that Kane will head back to Germany for treatment.

He said: “Harry Kane will return to Germany for treatment on ankle injury.

“He won’t be ready to play against Belgium on Tuesday.”

Bayern have huge fixtures on the horizon, including their Champions League quarter-final matches against Arsenal.

They also face Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga as they try to reduce the ten-point gap between them and leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

Although the prospect of Kane winning silverware at Bayern isn’t a certainty, he will play a key role for England at Euro 2024.

He is their highest scoring player of all-time and has netted six goals over their last two appearances at major tournaments.

Kane will be one of the favourites to win the Golden Boot in Germany, with his quality in front of a goal a big miss on Saturday night.

England struggled to show an threat going forward against Brazil, with Ollie Watkins starting as the striker on the night.
