Gangland feud fears after hit-and-run murder bid & firebomb attack in tough Glasgow scheme

FEARS are mounting of a gangland feud in a tough housing scheme after three alarming incidents, we can reveal.

And locals in Drumchapel told how there were now fears of further violence to come in the sprawling estate in north-west Glasgow.

The alarming series of events began on April 4 when a 42-year-old man was struck by a motor on the area’s Achamore Road in what police described as a “deliberate attack”.

The victim, who has not been named, cheated death after the maniac driver mowed him down.

Two days later, officers were called out to nearby Dunkenny Road, where they found a cache of weapons in a stolen car.

There has been no confirmation of whether firearms were involved.

Then last Wednesday, cops raced to a house in Katewell Place in Drumchapel after a firebomb nut launched a “targeted” early morning attack.

Images from the scene showed windows and a door with fire damage.

Police later confirmed a car linked to the incident had been found in nearby Fettercairn Avenue.

Last night residents told of their concern that the three incidents could be linked to rising tensions between rival gangs.

A source said: “It’s well known that there is an ongoing feud in the area and the talk is these incidents were part of that.

“No matter what is behind it, there is obvious anxiety over these three worrying incidents happening so close together and just days apart.

“Loads of families live in Drumchapel, so when things like this happen on your doorstep it’s very scary.”

Cops are continuing to probe all three incidents but investigators have revealed that the weapons discovery was not linked to the hit-and-run.

We told how the driver of the car fled the scene of the horror kill bid before ambulance crews arrived.

The injured man was then taken to the city’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where he was said to be in a stable condition.

Officers sealed off the road and a collision investigation team was spotted scouring the scene for clues.

Photos showed traffic cones and yellow evidence markers being placed at key spots by forensics specialists.

It’s understood that the car used in the attack was later located in the Hardgate area of neighbouring Clydebank.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Around 11.05pm on Thursday, April 4, a 42- year-old man was injured after being deliberately struck by a vehicle on Achamore Road.

“Enquiries into the incident are continuing.”

The force said of the “unconnected” weapons find in Dunkenny Road, at 6.45pm on Saturday: “Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances.”

And concerning the firebomb attack, the spokesman added: “We are investigating a wilful fire at a property in Katewell Place, Drumchapel, at around 5.45am on Wed-nesday, April 10.

“There were no injuries and the fire was extinguished.

“Officers are treating this as a targeted attack. Enquiries are ongoing.”
