Forspoken has been discounted to £8 less than a year after release

Square Enix‘s action RPG Forspoken has had its price slahed in the UK, with players able to effectively get the game for as low as £8.

Argos is selling the PS5 console exclusive for £11.99, while Amazon UK, GAME and HMV are all selling it for £9.99.

Smyths, however, has gone one better by selling the game for £7.99, an 86% discount on the game’s original price.

Earlier today players were able to access an even better deal, with The Game Collection selling the game for £14.99 with £10 in reward points, effectively making the game £5 (but requiring a subsequent purchase to spend the points). That offer has now been taken down, though.

The debut game from Square Enix’s Luminous Productions studio was released on January 24 to middling reviews, with its Metacritic score currently sitting at 64 on PS5 and 63 on PC.

Square Enix’s then-president Yosuka Matsuda admitted during a financial results briefing the following month that the game’s performance had been disappointing, saying sales were “lacklustre” following “challenging” reviews.

In late February it was announced that Luminous Productions was to merge into Square Enix.

“Square Enix Co, Ltd has developed numerous AAA high-definition games and possesses a wealth of intellectual property and content,” the company said at the time.

“Luminous Productions Co, Ltd. is meanwhile equipped not only with AAA title development capabilities but also technical expertise in areas such as game engine development. Combining the two entities will further enhance the Group’s ability to develop HD games.”

The game did, however, get its planned story DLC called In Tanta We Trust, which was released in May.
