Fans have taken to social media to vent their frustrations over Nicolas Jackson’s challenge on Takehiro Tomiyasu during Arsenal’s 5-0 romp over Chelsea.

Supporters felt Chelsea striker Jackson ‘got away’ with ‘deliberately stomping’ on Tomiyasu during his side’s heavy defeat at the Emirates.

Jackson was looking to close Tomiyasu down after he bypassed Conor Gallagher in the middle of the pitch but ended up clattering into him.

However, it was the fact the 22-year-old Chelsea star went diving in with his studs up that frustrated football fans on social media.

They took to social media to question how Jackson got away without a card, with some stating he should have been awarded a yellow ‘at least’.

One fan wrote: ‘Thought it was bad, but it also looks quite deliberate.’ Another added: ‘Ankle breaker and no card? That makes sense’.

Some fans called out VAR claiming they were ‘sleeping’ on the job. One furious fan wrote: ‘VAR sleeping… terrible.’

While one supporter tagged the official account of Professional Game Match Officials and said: ‘WHAT’S YOUR F***ING EXCUSE?’.

Others felt Chelsea were being show favourtism because Leandro Trossard had been awarded a yellow card for a similar foul.

One fan wrote: ‘And yet Trossard gets a yellow for a similar, yet much tamer and less dangerous, tackle.’ Another agreed, writing: ‘So Trossard gets a card and he doesn’t?’.

Rio Ferdinand agreed Jackson’s challenge was ‘reckless’ during TNT’s half-time coverage of the Premier League game.

He said: ‘I couldn’t believe that challenge wasn’t even looked at by VAR. We’ve seen so many instances this season as bad, if not even as bad as this. And you think yourself, wow, they’ve been sent off.

‘If they looked at this, they definitely would have said this was a reckless challenge. Wow. I would love them to come and explain that to me please.’

Martin Keown agreed with Ferdinand, he said: ‘I mean, that’s stunning. I think we saw Mikel Arteta get booked later in the game. I think maybe he was complaining Trossard getting booked, and we see that, and he [Jackson], you know, hasn’t even been booked.’

Ferdinand added: ‘That’s where the rule needs to change, You can’t say that’s ok, that’s a reckless challenge.’
