Experts warn against excessive paracetamol consumption due to potential for liver damage, respiratory problems, and more | Liverpool Echo

Paracetamol intake is a part of daily life for many people.

It’s common to take some to soothe a throbbing head, mask menstrual discomfort or dodge the effects of a hangover in the morning. But medical professionals have warned those exceeding the recommended daily dosage of paracetamol.

They say there are detrimental impacts on health you might be oblivious to. Research indicates that one in eight people in the UK are dependent on paracetamol, taking it every day.

Studies also show the quantity of paracetamol taken by people is excessively high, with one out of four regularly breaching the advised daily limit, which is set at eight tablets.

Approximately 25% of Brits experience chronic pain. However, evidence shows there are some extremely damaging side effects of long term painkiller use.

Dr Gerard Sinovich, Head Pain Consultant at Alternaleaf, said: “Over the counter painkillers such as paracetamol are pretty much a ‘default’ pain treatment in this country. However, it shouldn’t actually be used for more than three consecutive days without consulting with a doctor”, reports Wales Online.
