Ex On The Beach star Jemma Lucy reveals she suffered devastating ectopic pregnancy that could have killed her as she confirms split from convicted drug dealer boyfriend

Jemma Lucy has revealed she could have died while suffering from a devastating ectopic pregnancy.

In December, the 35-year-old Ex On The Beach star revealed she had been hospitalised with mystery pains and had banned her boyfriend, convicted drug dealer Nicholas Sinclair, from visiting her.

She has now revealed that she was hospitalised because of an ectopic pregnancy, which occurs when a fertilized egg implants itself outside of the womb, usually in the fallopian tube, meaning a baby is unable to develop and leaving the mother’s health in danger.

Speaking out about the ordeal, Jemma – who also confirmed she split from Nicholas days later – admitted she was terrified because doctors warned her she could die if her pregnancy ruptured.

The pregnancy also came as a shock as the glamour model, who has a four-year-old daughter from a previous relationship, thought she was simply having an irregular period after bleeding for three weeks.

She told The Sun: ‘Doctors told me that if the pregnancy ruptured, I could die so they wanted to take me in for emergency surgery. I was terrified of going for the operation and never waking up. I didn’t know what to do, and every minute was like a ticking timebomb.’

Jemma explained she was concerned about the surgery because it would involve removing one of her fallopian tubes but also because she’d previously suffered suicidal thoughts as a side effect to anaesthesia.

Thankfully, Jemma was able to be treated with an injection of methotrexate, which stops the baby from growing.

Shortly after her devastating ordeal, Jemma’s relationship came to an end on Christmas Day.

She left the hospital with Nicholas on December 23, having banned him from being in hospital with her at the time and telling fans: ‘It’s my choice, I prefer to do these things alone so I can zone out and just deal with it. Nick wanted to come but I said no.

‘Is that weird? Like I just prefer to be alone but feel like no one gets that.’

Jemma began dating model Nicholas last year after his relationship with Made In Chelsea’s Ruby Adler.

Nicholas previously served time in prison after pleading guilty at Surrey’s Guildford Crown Court to two counts of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs. He was given four-and-a-half years and freed after serving around half of that time.

Before his prison stint, Nicholas also appeared on Channel 5 TV show Dangerous Dog Owners and Proud – where he boasted that his pitbull could ‘rip a person’s liver out’ and had previously bit someone in the leg.

While she is taking time out to herself she hasn’t given up on finding love or having another child, telling The Sun: ‘I’d definitely love to have another child in the future, but right now, I just want to draw a line under these few months. I’m taking it day by day, and I’m slowly feeling in much better place.’

Jemma soared to fame on Ex On The Beach and has since featured in the tabloids for her bikini frolics and her nude selfies.

WHAT IS AN ECTOPIC PREGNANCY?

An ectopic pregnancy is when a fertilized egg implants itself outside of the womb, usually in one of the fallopian tubes.

The fallopian tubes are the tubes connecting the ovaries to the womb. If an egg gets stuck in them, it won’t develop into a baby.

In the UK, around one in every 90 pregnancies is ectopic. This is around 11,000 pregnancies a year.

An ectopic pregnancy doesn’t always cause symptoms and may only be detected during a routine pregnancy scan.

Symptoms can include a combination of:

  • a missed period and other signs of pregnancy
  • tummy pain low down on 1 side
  • vaginal bleeding or a brown watery discharge
  • pain in the tip of your shoulder
  • discomfort when peeing or pooing

Symptoms of a fallopian tube rupturing or splitting open are:

  • a sharp, sudden and intense pain in your tummy
  • feeling very dizzy, sick, or fainting
  • looking very pale

This is very serious and surgery to repair the fallopian tube needs to be carried out as soon as possible.

A rupture can be life-threatening, but fortunately they’re uncommon and treatable, if dealt with quickly. Deaths from ruptures are extremely rare in the UK.
