Doubts have emerged about Bruno Fernandes’ long-term future with Manchester United and he gave a telling answer about any potential move away from the club in the upcoming transfer window
Erik ten Hag cut Bruno Fernandes’ Sky Sports interview short after the midfielder dropped a major clue about his Manchester United future.
The Portuguese playmaker’s future has been put into doubt over the last few days. Bayern Munich have been linked with a swoop for his services, while his countryman Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly keen to link up with him at Al-Nassr.
Fernandes has just two years left on his contract at Old Trafford. Asked if he will be staying as a Red Devil, the 29-year-old confirmed he will remain so long as the club wants him.
Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: “I will be. The club needs to want me. The club wants me to be a part of the future. As I said always, I don’t want to be a player that the club doesn’t want to have. If for some reason, they don’t want to have me, I will go. But if they want me, I will stay.”
Fernandes’ interview did not last much longer as he was dragged away by manager Ten Hag. The Dutchman was keen to say a few words to the crowd following Man United’s final home game of the campaign – a 3-2 win against Newcastle.
Fernandes had performed excellently in the victory against the Magpies. Before being dragged away by his boss, he was asked if he had a point to prove in the game following a rotten season for the side.
He replied: “It doesn’t exist, a captain’s performance, just a team performance. A player has to do the best for the team and I’m not different than anyone because I have the armband.

“The armband doesn’t give you the responsibility of doing better performances. The chest does that. I try always to do my best as I know my teammates always try their best and we always try to do the best for the club. And no one hides that we play for a big club and we have to lift our standards every game.”
Fernandes will now be aiming to have an impact across the Red Devils’ final two games of the campaign. Man United take on Brighton in their final league match of the season, with their hopes of European football hanging in the balance.
Should they want a European spot through the league next season, they at least need to better Newcastle’s final result. Then it’s all eyes on Wembley and a second successive FA Cup final vs Manchester City.
