Elderly dog walker and pet die after being mowed down on Scots road

An elderly man and his dog have died after being mowed down by a car in Midlothian.

The 88-year-old died in hospital today, four days on from the incident on Tuesday morning.




The pensioner had been walking his pet on the A768 Loanhead at Nivensknowe Road.

He was struck by a Honda Civic and rushed to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh to be treated. He sadly succumbed to his injuries today.

Police have also confirmed that the dog the man was walking has also since passed away.

The male driver of the car did not require medical treatment.

Sergeant Grant Hastie of Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit said: “Our investigation into the circumstances of this collision are ongoing and our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this difficult time.
