Drunk woman hurled abuse at customers at Brewers Fayre pub restaurant in Margate

A drunk woman bit and kicked a police officer after she was arrested for hurling abuse at customers in a pub restaurant.

Staff at The Promenade in Margate were forced to call for help because Bethamy Smith (sic) was causing a disturbance at the Brewers Fayre venue.

Bethamy Smith had been drinking at the Brewers Fayre pub in Margate when police had to be called to the venue

But when police arrived the 27-year-old, who had been knocking back drinks, started calling other people in the pub “s**gs” and refused to leave.

She was arrested and taken into custody, but at the police station put her foot on the bar of a gate and resisted efforts to move her.

It was at this point she bit a police constable on the arm and then kicked him in the shin as other officers attempted to put her into a cell.

She was charged with assault on an emergency worker and being drunk and disorderly and admitted both offences when she appeared at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

District Judge William Nelson was told Smith had a short record of previous convictions, including one for assault on an emergency worker.

Alan Balneaves, prosecuting, added: “The officer gave a victim impact statement which said there was no excuse for her reaction to being arrested.”

The court also heard Smith, of Buenos Ayres, Margate, had addressed her alcohol problem since the incident at the Station Road pub on December 22 last year.

Judge Nelson requested a pre-sentencing report be carried out on Smith given her previous convictions and to establish what triggered her offending.

She was bailed to return to the same court to be sentenced on April 8.
