Diablo 4 players doubt minion builds will improve after Season 3 reveal

Brianna Reeves

On the heels of the Season 3 reveal, Diablo 4 players doubt minion builds for Druids and Necromancers will improve anytime soon.

The questionable viability of endgame minion builds has been a topic of conversation amongst Diablo faithful for several years. For some players, the need for such talk hasn’t changed with Diablo 4.

Necromancer players, for example, have blasted Blizzard due to the best builds being those that sacrifice minions. The hope was that these builds would receive buffs with the advent of Diablo 4’s Season 3 content.

However, following the studio’s recent Campfire Chat, players don’t seem too confident that the often-request changes are in the works.

Diablo 4 players question the future of minion builds

Blizzard’s latest Developer Update stream provided a preview of everything coming to Season 3. A new questline will sit center stage, alongside a seasonal companion that will come equipped with a skill tree. Plus, Druid and Sorcerer mains have brand-new Uniques to look forward to in the next season.

But not every member of the D4 community exited the broadcast with a smile. Several people flocked to the game’s subreddit to express their concerns about minion endgame builds.

“The Campfire chat today has made it abundantly clear that they don’t see Minions as an ‘End Game’ or dedicated build path,” wrote Redditor justaddsleep in one thread. Notably, the main cause for concern is that while minions will receive small buffs, the developers said a rework won’t happen because of more pressing matters.

Justaddsleep’s lengthy post means to educate users on the problems plaguing minion-centric builds in Diablo 4. For one, the user argued that “most of the supposed utility from minions simply does not work as intended.” Defenders and Bone golem still suffer from bugs, for instance. And Reaper corpse spawns remain a problem area.

The questionable damage output of minions, in addition to their wonky AI, also renders these builds ineffective, the Redditor argued.

Reddit user Cole_Evyx broached the same subject in a separate thread, pondering what it will take for Blizzard to provide minions with significant buffs.

One person responded by saying, “I’ll wait for the patch note but yeah I fear nothing will change. And it would be such a joke considering the whole season theme is to have a pet.”

Not everyone agrees, however. Another Diablo 4 player said their “werewolf druid build is quite strong.”

Opinions may differ, but it seems Druid and Necromancer mains want better for their preferred classes.
