David Beckham’s son upsets darts icon with Luke Littler caught in the middle

Darts icon Dennis Priestley isn’t so sure Luke Littler should take up Romeo Beckham’s challenge to face off at the oche.

Littler has attracted plenty of famous faces to the world of darts since his emergence at the World Championships over the festive period.

Football stars such as James Maddison, Harry Maguire and Declan Rice were all snapped with Littler during his run to the final at Alexandra Palace.

The 17-year-old also revealed after the tournament he had a message from England icon David Beckham.

“Before the final he sent me a message saying: ‘Good luck, Luke – once a Red, always a Red’. That was class,” Littler said in January.

“It’s just crazy, people who I have looked up to, especially my club Manchester United, wishing me luck.”

Beckham’s son, Romeo, was also in the crowd to see Littler in action and made clear he was there to support the teenager.

The 21-year-old was seen holding up a sign that read ‘super Luke Littler’ in the crowd with his friends.

And Romeo, who joined Brentford B on a one-year deal last summer, has revealed a passion for darts on social media as he shared images of him throwing arrows at his own board last week and challenged Littler to a match.

The two-time Premier League night winner appeared to accept the challenge as he replied with an eyes emoji.

However, Romeo’s request hasn’t gone down well with two-time world champion Priestley.

Speaking to OLBG, he said: “It’d be incredible to get David Beckham involved in darts – I’m not so sure about Romeo.

“Is he just trying to jump on the bandwagon of Luke Littler’s media attention?

“The PDC will always be looking at ways to incorporate a fun aspect to things instead of the seriousness of all the other tournaments.

“It’s always nice to have a bit of lighthearted fun and if they’re up for it and can make a night of it, maybe for charity, that sounds good to me.

“We can’t forget, Luke Littler is still so young and we have to be a little bit concerned for the lad.

“He’s going to be forced to turn his head if all these top stars are wanting to be seen in his presence.

“As long as they can play and they’re proper darts enthusiasts then it’s all well and good.

“But if it’s going to extract anything good from our game then you can only go so far with celebrities jumping on the Littler bandwagon.”
