- Now CEO Max Kownatzki is looking to expand the company’s presence in the UK
British holidaymakers drank a plane dry just 25 minutes into four-hour flight, an airline boss has revealed.
Turkish-German airline SunExpress was left stunned after every drop of beer and wine had been downed as they carted golfers off on holiday.
And now CEO Max Kownatzki is looking to expand the company’s presence in the UK, after it first started doing flights from Birmingham, Edinburgh, Gatwick, Luton and Manchester in 2022.
The former Lufthansa executive politely told TTG that British tourists are: ‘More high-spend, more hedonistic.’
He added: ‘We sold out of beer and wine 25 minutes after departure; we haven’t done that in any other market.’
Brits reacted to the news with pride after realising the crowd of golfers had beaten every other country with their impressive alcohol consumption.
Commenting on social media, producer Tom Lavin joked: ‘And they say we as a nation have nothing to be proud of.’
Another Brit added: ‘Makes you proud to be British.’
A Manchester United fan – laughed: ‘I’m just surprised it took them 25 minutes.’
And a fourth said: ‘On a golf trip… yeah… figures!’
It does not say how many people were on the flights at a time to manage to finish the entire plane’s drinks store.
But SunExpress solely flies Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 737-8 aircraft – which both have a capacity of 189 seats.
And some social media-users were horrified at the excess drinking as they raged against the irresponsible boozing.
One, Phillip Lawler, said: ‘Never understood the getting wellied at the airport/on the plane thing. Save your energy for your destination.’
And another, Linda, said: ‘Banning alcohol on flights is a must.’
