Best PS5 deal of all-time is here, but only for Amazon Prime users

PlayStation 5 has crashed to its lowest-ever price …but not for everyone.

The best-selling console usually costs £479.99, but has plummeted to £409.99 in the latest flash sale. This lower price is available from Currys, Argos, and Smyths Toys, to name just a few. Very UK is offering the PS5 console at the same price, but bundles Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga (worth £19.99) at no extra cost.

Meanwhile, John Lewis & Partners is selling the console for slightly more at £419.99 — the same price as buying direct from Sony’s online store.

But Amazon has the ultimate discount on the Sony PlayStation 5. For a limited time, it’s selling the console for £409.99 but Amazon Prime members can unlock an extra £20 off. That drops the PS5 down to £389.99.

That’s the same cost as the more affordable Digital Edition console from Sony and comfortably the biggest ever price drop on the flagship PS5. It’s one of the best deals in Amazon’s Spring Deal Days sale. In order to unlock the £20 discount, you’ll need an active Amazon Prime membership.

Amazon Prime membership costs £8.99 per month or £95 for an annual subscription. If you don’t want access to any of the other perks of Prime membership, you can sign up for a 30-day free trial to slash the cost of the PS5, then cancel your membership.

You’ll enjoy the redesigned PlayStation 5 launched at the end of last year with a slimmer form factor that shed 30% of the bulk from the original console that debuted in 2020. Known as the Slim Model, this refresh also sports an extra USB-C port on the front of the console and a larger 1TB hard drive. This was an increase from the 825GB that launched with the original console, of which 667.2GB was usable space.

The mind-boggling new price cut applies to the PlayStation 5 Disc Edition, which has an optical drive to play physical games and Blu-ray films. At £389.99, you’ll be paying the same price for this top-of-the-line console as the PS5 Digital Edition, which ditches the optical disc drive to permanently reduce its price.

This model is not currently discounted with any major UK retailers. And frankly, given that it won’t cost a penny more for the Disc Edition, you might as well buy the version of the console that lets you borrow physical games from friends, buy second-hand discs, and play DVDs and Blu-rays.
