Bernardo Silva reveals extra Man City motivation to beat Man Utd in FA Cup final

Manchester City have the chance to make history once more when Pep Guardiola’s Premier League title winners face bitter rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup final on Saturday

Bernardo Silva says Manchester City’s players never tire of winning – and have their sights set on creating more history at Wembley on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola’s men became the first side in English football to win four league titles in a row, after wrapping up the Premier League title last Sunday with a 3-1 win over West Ham. City can become the first side to win back-to-back Doubles with victory over local rivals Manchester United today, with Silva and his team-mates hungry for more silverware.

“It’s motivation to try and do something that’s never been done before,” said Silva. “We want to get that record. We have it in front of us and we’re going to try and prepare for the game as well as possible and try to be very competitive, because we want this FA Cup.

“These targets always help, but I think it’s just the feeling that we have. We’re a group of players and leaders that are so competitive. Even in training, if we’re against each other, we’re so competitive. The feeling of winning is so much better than the feeling of losing and we love winning. If we’re here every day working, then why not try and do it again and again as a team?

“Last season was probably the best season of our lives, because of the Treble, and how difficult it was to play every three days in the three competitions, knowing we had to win all of the games to achieve the Treble, which was only done once before by our rivals.”

Silva admitted the fact United are City’s opponents – just as they were in last year’s final – means there is even more riding on the game for the two sets of rival fans. “Maybe a bit, especially for the fans,” said Silva. “Not as much for us, but for the fans and the way they live this game.

“A final of the FA Cup, against your biggest rivals in the same city? I think it’s very emotional for them and we get that. We try to prepare as best as possible to try and give them what they deserve, which is another title and the win.”
