BBC Radio 1 – BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend – Radio 1’s Big Weekend: The Showdown

The tension was palpable as Greg dove straight into day 2 of the Big Weekend Showdown! Yesterday, the game kicked off to an exhilirating start with Trixy and Aaron finding Melvin Odoom in Bedfordshire University within seconds of eachother, before Aaron shockingly stole the pair of tickets for himself.

Alfie Templeman provided Danni’s 1st clue on Day 2

Greg was keen to discover the next hidden DJ. “Hello mystery weirdo! I can hear rustling. Oh its Danni Diston! You’re not that mean I don’t think.”

“I’m a little bit more naughty than people think!” Danni laughed down the line from her Luton hiding spot. Who would be the first to find our Danni Diston?

CLUE #1

For her first clue, we heard from Alfie Templeman: “Hey Greg, it’s me Alfie Templeman. If you want to find Danni then Radio 1’s Ali Plumb probably recognises her hiding place pretty well.”

Greg was quick to suggest the Galaxy cinema (Ali Plumb? Films?). Whereas listener Nicola thought more outside the box finding an Alim Plumbing & Heating service in Luton. Perhaps Danni was getting her waterworks sorted! Greg and the listeners continued to theorise – could it be the Warner Brothers Studio in neighbouring Watford?

“I can hear the sweat dripping off your forehead Greg.” Danni taunted.

CLUE #2

The next clue came from newly appointed ‘sassy pants’ Danni herself: “It’s very simple. It’s the number 11.”

Suddenly a turning point when Greg spoke to listener Jess who’d done some darn good detective work. “The first clue had to be a location of some sort, something that Ali Plumb would recognise from a film or TV show. And the second clue 11, immediately you have to think Millie Bobbie Brown, immediately you have to think Stranger Things.” Was Stranger Things ever filmed in Luton Jess wondered? Nothing online. “However, Enola Holmes,” Jess continued “they recreated some of London in Luton. I believe it’s Luton’s Hoo Estate where they created all of the scenes.”

As Greg did his googles he could confirm Enola Holmes was indeed filmed at the Luton Hoo Hotel. He was certain that’s where Danni was hiding.

Super-speedy-listener-turned-avid-competition-partaker Trixy called in from the town centre’s cinema where she was sure she’d find Danni. Trixy missed out on Monday’s tickets when her opponent Aaron decided to steal. Could she be in for a second chance? Alas, not a peep from the Cornish weekend presenter at the cinema, the door was shut, although Trixy could see a sign saying ’11 screens’.

“Whooo knows where I am?”

Dropping all sorts of hints, Danni gave Greg and the listeners her final clue: “Think of the name of one of the Radio 1 Dance family.”

No sooner had Greg finished listing off the entire Radio 1 Dance roster before Danni interjected – listener Mark had walked across the road in his crocs to find her at the Luton Hoo! Almost as quickly as Mark arrived, listener Jenny burst into the room after sneakily changing course when Trixy confirmed the cinema was a no-go. Could this be a sign of things to come?

Now the two contestants had found Danni, it was time to make a decision. To split, or to steal? Danni presented Jenny and Mark with the two options. The Aries vs. Scorpio tension was high with Danni wondering if they’d live up to their starsign stereotypes. Press play to see what went down in another nail-biting showdown…
