Bayern Munich are ‘monitoring’ former Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as potential interim manager should they decide to sack Thomas Tuchel, according to reports in Germany.
The Bavarian giants are reeling from three consecutive defeats which have left them eight points adrift in the Bundesliga and facing a one-goal deficit in the Champions League last-16 second-leg.
Tuchel has come under increasing criticism, with Sunday’s 3-2 defeat to Bochum ramping up the pressure on the former Chelsea boss.
Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso has been linked as a long-term replacement, while former manager Hansi Flick has also been rumoured but for a role until the end of the campaign.
However, according to Sky Germany, shockingly, Solskjaer is another name in the frame to take over at the Allianz Arena.
Reporter Florian Plettenberg claimed on Monday that the 50-year-old has been eyed as a potential replacement, though the preference of club chiefs is to stick with Tuchel at this stage.
There is no concrete agreement between the two parties but Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund has been ‘following the way of Solskjaer for years’.
The news comes as a major surprise considering Solskjaer’s previous managerial experience, that includes a largely unimpressive spell at the helm of his former club.
The Norwegian has been without a coaching role since his Old Trafford sacking in 2021 following a dismal 4-1 loss to Watford that capped off a run of seven losses in 13 games.
Solskjaer is currently employed as a Technical Observer for UEFA, attending Champions League fixtures and providing reports throughout this season.
In the aftermath of Bayern’s latest defeat, Plettenberg reported that the club were not considering replacing Tuchel, nor was the Champions League winner contemplating resigning from his post.
But with a growing number of managers linked with the post, Tuchel’s position looks increasingly insecure.
