Aston Villa’s Villa Park relocation stance as Birmingham City secure huge land deal

Aston Villa’s cross-city rivals Birmingham City could be in the near future, but it’s understood that the Premier League club have no plans to relocate themselves from Villa Park.

Birmingham have lined up a deal to purchase land owned by the council with a view to building a new stadium. The former Wheels site, on Bordesley Park, is less than a mile from the club’s existing home at St Andrew’s.

It’s a 48-acre site which is in the final stages of being sold off to Blues, which the sale is due to be signed off on Wednesday during a meeting of the council’s property committee. Meanwhile, some Villa supporters have flirted with the idea of relocating from Villa Park due to growing concerns that the stadium could in fact hold the club back in the coming years.

A section of Villa fans fear that there are limited revenue opportunities and many have expressed problems with their matchday experience. BirminghamLive has been told the club currently has no plans to leave Villa Park and relocate despite the challenges of raising revenue and reducing the tens of thousands currently stuck on a season ticket waiting list.

Last year, newly-appointed president of football operations Chris Heck decided to shelve plans to build an entirely new North Stand, which would have boosted the stadium’s capacity to 50,000 in time for hosting EURO 2028 fixtures.

However, Heck does plan to add approximately 3,000 seats by changing the seating layout in some areas.
