Armed police have locked down a residential street after a man appeared to be brandishing a gun.
Officers have cordoned off Holborough Road in Snodland amid an ongoing incident in a block of flats.
Witnesses say more than 30 emergency service workers are at the scene after the man was spotted holding “what looked like a gun” in the window of a flat.
The road remains closed between the junction for the A228 and Willowside.
In a statement released to KentOnline, police confirmed officers are being “supported by armed patrols”.
“We are currently at the scene of an incident in Holborough Road, Snodland, where a man is reported to be acting in an aggressive and threatening manner towards the officers,” they said.
“The officers attended the residential property at about 2.35pm in order to speak to the man about an earlier reported incident.”
Residents living nearby say they have been told to stay in their homes and keep their lights off.
“There are several police cars, several fire engine cars and several armed police with guns,” one resident said.
A barmaid at Snodland Working Men’s Club, which is based close to the cordon, said: “The atmosphere is on edge at the moment as some of our members can’t get home.”
More as we get it.
